Dear CD Members,
I am new to this country and I am not aware of how to go about with a job search and getting a good resume done. I have been to the Government run programs, met a few people there. But that’s not so good. In fact it is pathetic. The motivation lecturer was yawning half way through the motivation lecture !!! What a plight.
Monster charges a bomb. So does workopolis and a few professional writers.
With time and funds running out fast, is there any one on CD who can help me with
a) Getting a good resume done. I did write to the CD resume writers but there has been no response. ( probably because it is free- hence)
b) Preparing me for the interview and other skills needed.
c) Guiding me to the people who would be able to help me through.
I don’t mind paying a bit ( conversion factor ghost still looms on hindsight) for someone who can step forward to help me out with this.
To let you know the facts. I was in Customer service back in India and have worked with companies like Bajaj Auto and Eagle Flask. I am in Brampton but do not mind traveling to Mississauga or Toronto if needed.
This is out of desperation. Hope my prayers wont get unanswered.
If you are in IT I can help you with your resume. I dont need any money. I am an IT recruiter and can help you with getting your resume proper for IT positions.
By the way - just as a suggestion - do not pay anyone to write your resume, do a google search on resume writing and you will come across lots of sites and lots of info.
I am sending you my email separately by pm for you to communicate with me (if you would like to).
I am not surprised.
Although I am not an expert in making resumes, I have been doing this for a while - voluntarily on CD. I have only had a few resumes done for people who requested me to do so. A few landed jobs, in their field, others did not. Also I am a mentor for the region of PEEL. I have had my own stories of success and failures as well.
Let me make it clear that by making a good resume you can land a job, but no one guarantees it. If a good resume were the only document needed no one would be doing labor and other odd jobs.
We have formed a team of like minded people, wherein all are just fresh ( not more than two years old) professionals from India doing full time jobs in the same profession here in Canada. They have stepped forward to help similar people new to the country get the resumes done and also to attack the segment that would yield maximum results. E.g. People from QC, Pharmaceuticals, Mfg, Purchase and Industrial Sales. We are not getting anyone with P Engg. to form the team.
The way we would approach is
Have a face to face discussion with the newly landed immigrant.
Prepare his/her resume and covering letter after thorough consultation. (Most of the people do not even see the person who writes their resumes in todays world.) We intend to make it more personalized and address the core competency of the indiviudal.
Stay motivated... and we help you stay that way, so that you can get there.
We shall not charge high fees for resume writing. The cost is only to cover the expenses of travel and time spent to meet and write your resume. We are not in to make a fast buck. It is very nominal... and I am sure you would be delighted to know that.
If you like us, then we proceed to the next stage of preparing yourself for the interview and other things.
As you said, anything which is free is \"as free\".
Please PM your detials to me and I shall call you soon. And to people who are in similar situation - please PM your details and I shall get in touch with you.

Morning rain,
I agree with your statement. Even though Sudhish's intention may be genuine, i suggest that all new immigrants fully exploit the resources of the HRDC. remember you paid for their services by the ROLF.
Ask the resume writer of HRDC to also let you know what free services are available. In skills for change , they even pay for your TTC tickets to attend their resume writing workshops. My wife attended it and found it to be very nice and they will also set you up on either a co-op (paid) or at the least a voluntary job.
Thanks
