Great forum put up by C-Desies.. gr8 job.
Have been reading this forum for some time now, but still have some queries.
Would appreciate if any of you people can answer them.
My queries.
1. What is the procedure to apply for a PR?
2. How long can it take for a newly landed immigrant to apply for a PR and actually get it?
3. How much does the application procedure cost?
4. Does getting a PR bring us at par with the Canadian citizens?
5. Will i need a SIN as soon as i reach Canada... isn't it more for taxation purpose etc
6. Some where i read that Health Insurance begins only after living in Canada for 3 months... is that true... is there any other plan one can take for those 3 months.
regards
Here you go....
1. What is the procedure to apply for a PR?
The application is accepted at the port of arrival
2. How long can it take for a newly landed immigrant to apply for a PR and actually get it?
Takes about 3-4 weeks to receive it
3. How much does the application procedure cost?
Included as part of your application fees
4. Does getting a PR bring us at par with the Canadian citizens?
Nope. PR = Permanent Resident. Citizen = Citizen - one who has lived in the country x number of years (I think it's 3 years in the last 5 years)
5. Will i need a SIN as soon as i reach Canada... isn't it more for taxation purpose etc
You need a SIN to work
6. Some where i read that Health Insurance begins only after living in Canada for 3 months... is that true... is there any other plan one can take for those 3 months.
That's true in Ontario, not necessarily true in other provinces. You can buy private insurance. Rates vary.
