Has anyone flown within India (domestic)?
I am told that the domestic airlines charge in $$ for NRIs and in Rs. for locals. So a Cochin-Delhi flight is CDN $200 one way vs Rs. 3,200. Do we need to say that we are NRIs while booking tickets? I am also told that they check photo ID while boarding. ID like what? Voter ID card? If someone does not have a voter ID card, can they still fly? Or am I misinformed.

The fares are more for foreigners (goras/kalas etc..:D ) who look non-residents obviously. As long as you look local, you can travel at local price. Nobody checks.

I flew Air Deccan and Jet Airways in Aug of 2005. Jet charges $ rate for non-residents and Rs rate for residents. Air Deccan has one fare for everyone and they don't care what you look like.

Hi,
I either buy the domestic ticket over the counter or ask my parents in india to book the ticket and mail them to me.
In india since most of the domestic planes DONOT fly at full capacity at any time, even over the counter buying is recommended.
The time when you will have to pay $ for jet fare is when you book it along with your international ticket from canada.
And if you donot have too much luggage and have time, book and go by train within india. There is online booking and the tickets will be delivered to an indian address or there are E-tickets as well.
