Yes. You are right the company is startec. I get few calls every week including Sunday evening. Some of the reps are very rude. I have even asked them to take my name off the list but hasnot happened.

To get rid of tele-mktg's, I ask them to remove me from their list
AND:
ask that guy to provide following details:
. their company's full name
. their full name - first name, last name
. their employee number/ID number
. their direct-report boss full name
. their direct line number

Usually this works. That guy will definately take your request seriously.

Did not work in this case atleast with Startec. I even got the Sr Manager to call me and she assured me that she'll get my name off the list - don't know if she got it off the list or got it to the top of the list....

I have tried this before and this almost never works BECAUSE the dude always hangs up the phone before I can even finish my sentence.

In the US, the FCC passed a law that requires any direct marketing company to remove you from their list if you request it.
The telemarketers usually got around that law by hanging up the phone before you can complete your sentence.

This is what I do: I have caller ID. If I see several calls coming from the same number time and again, one fine day, I turn the phone on and play the "Hey Lizard, lizard, lizard" Taco Bell Chiuauaha (spel?) toy I have.

Done that on three junk callers and they have gotten the message. No more calls from them any more.

I beg to differ. 9 months ago my job went to India. Though I did not loose my job but was transferred to another division. After 9 months, they found the experiment did not work. The job came back to Canada and I got it back after 9 months.

Even call center jobs, I donot know how efficient Indian call centers are. I kept getting calls from Indian call center of one long-distance company almost every week for few months. Waste of time and money, as I am never going to change my long distance to this company as they told Bell without my consent to change my line over to them. The call center agents are so rude, one agent almost scolded me for not wanting to save my money on long-distance. I was so pissed of that I told him it is my money and I will throw it if I want and it is none of your business.

The other day I got call from Indian call center doing some market research. The very next day somebody else from the same company called me for my opinion. The labor may be cheap. But donot forget if you give peanuts, you get monkeys.

Outsourcing is good if they donot have client interface and all they got to do is back-office work.

I absolutely differ on your comment.
I have personal experience of doing 4 projects overseas and i have seen it. In one of the project in US all functional resources where US citizens. The company is No.2 IT Service company of the world. We were on H1 providing technical support from another company as sub contractors. We were horrified to see the funcitional consultant having no knowledge of the modules and they were being paid 80 K and that too they were responsible only for one module. We were being paid less but had more functional knowlege even though the team was full of techies and we were handling multiple modules of ERP as well. The client started discussing more things with us then functional resource of US company.

So you mean to say by giving peanuts all american companies are hiring monkeys.. uhhh.. Americans are smartest people in the world as far as business is concerned. They value each dollar and they know how to spend dollars and get best out of it. Thats what they have now realized and so outsourcing....

Indian companies and indians have started getting consulting work in western countries and are client facing.

In this race of outsourcing america would be the ultimate winner along with countries like india and china in the long run (read "The world is flat";). Cananda i am sorry to say would be facing heavy casualty as canada has approx 75% of their revenues from US and all american companies will shift their base to high productivity countries like India, China, Philliphines, Polan, Ireland etc.....

You are obviously hurt by my comments. I have stated my experience. Peanuts and monkeys comment was about the Startec and how it is a waste of time for everybody i.e. for Startek as well as me. I donot think those who work in IT and are sent to US get peanuts. I herad that they get a pretty good comparable salary and in India that can be a huge sum of money.

Well i can understand what you write and try to mean, but i cannot understand what you think and what you do not write. My comment was based on the former.
