Can some one who took laptop as gift to India recently share their experience about custom formalities and any custom duty thay had to pay please( As Tamilkuravan said there is no clarity if 1 laptop allowed free of duty is applicable for gifts or only for personal use).

One Laptop is allowed to be carried duty free per person over the age of 18 . These days the custom people are not at all concerned about the Laptop,as it is allowed duty free. The rule does not mention if it for gift or personal use. It just says you are allowed to carry one laptop into the country. Check http://www.cbec.gov.in/travellers.htm.
