Thank you guys and girl.

I saw a few sites. Sealy is expensive but I guess that the price one has to pay for a comfortable sleep. but are srpings good? Brown girl, you are using sealy, is it coils + foam? I have heard similar stories on futon. The best are our Indian style cotton mattresses. May be I can think of getting one or two here by sea cargo?

I am used to very firm mattress. So I guess visiting ‘Sleep Country’ shall give me an idea of the options available to me.

Yes, I did try sleeping on the floor with a quilt. Boy, that was good. But cannot continue in the long term. But that also meant a strain on the knees everytime you want to get up. So am going to buy a new one but after a careful search. After all health is wealth.

Getting one from India may not be a very useful option. One of my friends bought it and within months he was repenting as due to moisture, there was no cushion at all! Finally, he bought a couple of Futton mattress and uses them over those Indian mattress.

But a Hard Foam mattress is recommended by most experts for back pain.

All the best, keep us posted of ur decision and experience.

As I stated earlier..this is my experience. A hard foam mattress (with something called 'egg crate like softer foam to give comfort' of at least 6 inches thickness is the best. I have suffered from back pain for years and this helped. I used to have an IKEA mattress... they do not appear to be of very high quality/durability.

I would recommend buying a hard foam one..or go to a store and just check it out. Dont waste money like we did (though it was a learning experience)

I have had good experience with futons. I bought a good quality one as I did not want to sleep on foam mattresses as in India when I used to travel & live in hotels, I couldn't sleep at all.

The futon (queen size) that I bought was around $250 & the single bed size was $130. It came with a 10 year warranty & for the last one & half years, I have had no problem with it. Buy it from a good store. The futon for my sofa has not lasted at all.

Rgds.

Went to sleep country and got even more confused. There are two types. One with fancy stuff - memory foam. Very expensive and beyond my budget. Other ones that were good and firm are basically the coil types. Simmons and Sealy. I am not too keen on the coil types.

Where can you find a hard foam mattress? And the egg crate theory seems very good. But again where do I find such a mattress?

All the major stores have brands like Sealy, Simmons and Serta. Could not find any foam ones under $1000. Any one has any experience with Simmons or Sealy spring type?

This back pain is really getting painful!

Hi

Contact a physiotherapist near you or chiro..see if they can refer you to a store that makes foam mattresses. You wont find them at sleep country etc.

Memory foam isnt the right thing for bad backs... they market it well though...

only by going to a manufactorer directly can you get a foam mattress (at a lower ratetoo)

I googled it and I got:

Kates & Company (A Division Of The Foam & Fabric Shoppe)
(416) 789-9862
1098 Eglinton Avenue West
Toronto, ON M6C 2E2

See if they can help or refer you. This may take perseverence.. good luck

Apart from your mattress/futon search, I would recommend taking up Yoga for your back pain.

My wife had severe back pain in India. After she started doing Yoga, she has totally got cured of back pain. She is a Yoga teacher now.

Rgds.

Hi,

Where can we get the best valued hard mattresses? Heard that one would get the best rates directly from manufacturer and can get them shipped to ur home as well.

Any ideas as to who they might be and where they are located?

Also, what would be the range of costs involved?

Would that be just for mattress or include the box spring and frames too?
