Hi

I am looking for a cheap air ticket to India, and I am planning to fly with my baby in the month of April.

Destination: Delhi
Flight: Direct (as transit will be a problem since I will be travelling alone with a new born baby)
Departure Date: sometime in the last week of April.
Ticket type: economy - round trip.

If anyone is travelling to India (Delhi) during that time, do let me know, and perhaps we can go together.

Also, can anyone throw some light on whether OHIP covers emergency medical care in India, and if yes, to what extent, and how to claim such expenses??

Thanks
Nupur

Nupur,
I got your PM. I have replied to your E-mail as my PM doe not work. Alternatively you can mail your phone number to my e-mail address or to my PM.
Regarding the travel agent, we booked with one who gave us the lowest quote in air france. it was Toronto-paris-B'lore. There is also Toronto-paris-New Delhi. I think that Air India has the direct flight to New Delhi. Othere members who have used it can enlighten us.
Please be aware that, Babies are recommended by the doctor to fly long haul only after 3 Months and so be careful on that. Travelling alone with a baby is a tedious affair, esp. when the baby is bottle feeding. So please go with someone. Be also informed that flying with a baby with full cold/ running nose and ear infection is not advisable b'cos the baby's ear drum can burst while takeoff/ landing. See the doctor 3 to 4 days before you leave for ear infection. An antibiotic for ear infection will take 72 hrs. for healing. An ear infection can be found by a pungent odour emanating from the ears while smelling the ear.
First of all you have to register the birth with the city by going to the city office and going to the registration of live birth. then you can apply for Birth certifcate/ registration Online. Further info. is available on the web. I had forgotton how i did it. But when i applied i got it in 2 or 3 weeks since online was new and there were no much takers. Depending on the certificate/ registration (once you get it), you can apply for a 1 year/ 3 year passport. For this you need , the birth certificate or birth registration. The form needed to be signed by a professional (lawyer, family doctor, dentist , engineer etc..). in this case you will get it in 5 or 6 working days. if you donot know anyone, then you will have to get it attested by a notary public and it will take atleast 10 + working days for the passport. in this case you will have to specify 2 references (who are not your relatives) and the passport office will call them and ask for :
1. the baby's date of birth.
2. parents address
3. parents date of birth and / or age.
4. where the parents work etc..
so inform your references about this .
hope it helps....

Check this out....

http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/public/pub/ohip/travel.html

As of September 1, 1995, if you are injured or become ill while travelling outside Canada, OHIP will pay for emergency health services as follows :

If you receive emergency care from a physician or other eligible health care provider, OHIP will pay only as much as that service would have cost in Ontario.
Emergency inpatient hospital services eligible for OHIP coverage will be paid up to a maximum of $400 (Canadian) per day or the amount billed whichever is less :

The amount actually billed to a maximum of $400 per day for complex hospital care, that is rendered in a coronary care unit, an intensive care unit, a neonatal or paediatric special care unit or an operating room of an eligible hospital or health facility

Up to $200 for less intensive medical care
Emergency outpatient services, with the exception of dialysis, will be paid to a maximum of $50 (Canadian) for all outpatient services provided on any one-day. Out-of-country dialysis treatment will be paid at a rate of $210 (Canadian) per treatment.
OHIP will cover services only when they are provided in hospitals or appropriately licensed health facilities.

For out-of-country inpatient services the health care facilities must routinely perform both complex medical and complex surgical procedures. For outpatient services, they must routinely perform either complex medical or complex surgical services.

Canadian Dream,
I am in receipt of your PM but i think that this agent will be of help only from flight starting from Toronto. Since you are in Calgary (which i saw only later) you should contact an agent from Calgary to give you a cheap ticket.
You can contact Rajan of Calgary (through PM or E_mail) and he can share with you his travel agent. He is departing permanently to India from Calgary on mArch 23 rd.

I booked my tickets thro' Multi-Culture Travels (Raj is the contact person). They are in North-east near Safeway. Phone no. is 590-3700.

You can also contact Goyal Travels which is nearby Apna Punjab & O.K.

Rgds.
