Citizenship is a privilege .
No privilege can raise the self-esteem or attitude of any human being.
It has to come from within.

Any person that says anything like: I am just waiting for "this" and THEN I will do "that", trust me, he will never be able to do "that".

I bet you meant loyalty, not royalty (that would mean you got to sign away your wealth to the Queen):)

Yes, I am not in agreement in pledging allegiance to the Queen. I'll let the Govt know AFTER I get my citizenship:)

Actually, there was a movement recently to amend the oath to pledge allegiance to the Canadian Flag which makes more sense. I don't know how far that went.

If Gandhi is in Canada would he have gone for Candian citizenship? I am just pointing Gandhi here as the name comes quickly to my mind. If any freedom fighter is in Canda would he have gone for his citizenship and be loyal to her majesty.
I think Gandhi's relatives are in East coast and not sure whether they are naturalized americans..

Hello!
I am taking my citizenship oath tomorrow at 11:00 am. This thread has invoked my feeling of patriotism in me. Till now , i have not made up my mind if i should say the oath or not. I am not comfortable in owning my loyality to the Queen, a mere mortal. I will decide by tonight the solution.
if any of you have any tips , please share.
TK
sidenote: I will surely take the citizenship. I feel that it is the bonus that Canada gives immigrants who have slooged in this cold country in labour jobs for 4 years, paying taxes and living a down trodden life in Canada. The only thing that i am not sure is about the oath. Should i or not pledge my alliance/ loyalty to a mere mortal in this age where everyone is equal. I have never been born a slave and never will be a slave. I feel that the oath is a discrimination. Canada thus stands in line with Saudi Arabia which is owned by a king and his sucessors and where democracy is not allowed.
Sidenote 2 :Please note that i will not be cursing the Queen. I also donot approve the related statement found in the below mentioned post. I respect the Queen as a ruler of a sovereign country. What i said was that i donot like/ approve/ consider it ethical to take an oath in the name of the Queen and her sucessors, mere mortals.

what did Gandhi do. Just extended the time for India getting it's freedom, by preaching non-voilence. If these things had been left in hands of Chandrashekar, Bhagat Singh etc, we would have got it way before.

what did Gandhi do, by extending the time, getting more innocent killed in name of Non-Voilence, which I never understood where he got from because whether Jainism or Hinduism they both preach non-voilence, but they never that voilence for a just cause is wrong. And if attaining freedom is a wrong cause, what further can I say about these ppl.

What did Gandhi and Nehru do, made India and Pakistan.

What is there to hate about this country. I find it to be the same as my motherland whom I still treasure. It like my motherland, has mountains, lakes, sand, rivers, beaches, animals, trees and humans. What you don't like are some stupid individuals. But then where on earth you don't find them.

It's us humans who have created India, Canada, USA otherwise the Earth is Earth. Learn to appreciate it. Hate the ppl. if you really want to (though I don't really justify that too because as I said idiots will be found everywhere) Remember V.P Singh and Mandal commission.
