In my view, its more the freedom of choice. In your personal value system you may consider viewing 'adult' material spoiling yourself. Another person may not. However I commended this woman to go in despite the long standing tradition of these 'men's domains'. This can start a trend or acceptance for women to go if they choose to, or not.

It sure can start a trend. Dont know about the acceptance though.... it might take some time..it does take guts to do something like that .I think the article reflected more about the people's attitude towards women and wat ( they think) is ok for women and wats not. its not uncommon for women to be ridiculed for stepping into mens "territories" .
One must always have the open choice of what they would or wouldnt like to do...what one does with that choice is their own personal preference.

As I understand, that lady had either of following reasons
1. To create awareness among the women ( well, it was on March 8th).
I totally support her step. Create more awareness and send message to other women and start living openly.
2. Just to prove equality
Now, here's where I feel unconfortable.
If she like doing those activities ( anything - bar, porn, drive cab, etc ) then it's no big deal. She did what she loves to do.
If she does'nt like any of those thing, then she should have never done those things. Doing anything that you do not like, or doing anything just to prove equality, yea, I don't agree with that.
Love what you do. Do what you love.

Well lets put things in context. This is an article from a popular tabloid in Bombay. So I think what happened is that the editor asked this lady to come up with an article which would be newsworthy and would catch the readers attention and at the same time be entertaining.
So this lady came up with this novel theme of "Boldly going where no woman has gone before" In our college days the common joke was that it would be the men's washroom but I digress.
I found the article entertaining and irreverent so I posted it in the Have Fun section. But let the debate go on. It adds to the entertainment value of the article.

Oh no the article is not made up but it wasn't written as a piece for the female liberation movement but purely an entertainment article. Thats my take on it. Bombay is by far the most westernized and liberal city in India. In fact I would say that the teenagers there are even more westernized and liberal than teenagers in the west . But there is a huge class divide in Bombay or for that matter India so while the "upper" classes have the benefits of being exposed to western thought and culture the middle class and less priviliged are still quite conservative and traditional. So we have a divide in attitudes also unlike the west where the divide is less distint.
