It's visible in Canada (not in India) tonight.
So take care.

Take care - why are we in danger?
Penumbral Lunar Eclipse:
The Moon passes through Earth's penumbral (partial) shadow.
These events are of only academic interest since they are subtle and quite difficult to observe

We are not in danger
However, DIO's message was sort of important for me as my wife is expecting and it is better for pregnant women not to expose themselves to eclipses. I believe, only the end of the eclipse is visible in N.A and that would be around 8 to 10.15 pm tonight eastern time.
If anyone knows for sure the scientific reason, feel free to share.

I believe that all those "old wives tales" are attributed with SOLAR eclipse and not LUNAR. The absence of sun's rays can lead to growth of bacteria/viruses and lead to unhygenic conditions. That is the same reason, in old days, all the food prepared before solar eclipse was thrown away and people used to take bath after eclipse.
During one of the solar eclipses, DD was having a telecast of the solar eclipse, and one of the foremost scientist (I believe it was Dr. Yashpal???!!!), emphasized the fact that nothing happens to a pregnant woman during eclipse. He also laughed at the idea of putting cow dung on woman's stomach.
On a different note, think of this - the earth completes one rotation around sun once every year. Moon rotates around earth every 30 days. Still, it is not possible to calculate the locus of moon. In short, the motion of moon cannot be described by a simple mathematical equation

Aahh ... congrats!
The Moon will be in penumbral shadow from 6:18PM till 7:18PM (Eastern time).
Moon rise in Toronto: 6:16PM local time
But usually it takes like 10-20mins to be visible above horizon, depending on weather.
During eclipse, there is a possibility of harmful rays reaching earth. This could be the reason why our ancient beliefs believe in staying indoors and discarding any leftovers.
And yea, there is a solar eclipse coming up on March 29th 2006. It will be visible in northern-central africa (Best place? somewhere in Libya
)
Might be visible, may be 20-30%, in India, depending on your location.

Thank you
I am aware that the March 29 solar eclipse is visible only in Africa, Europe and West Asia. So, that should be fine.
As said earlier, solar eclipse causes more harm than lunar. I've heard lunar causes indigestion issues and hence people eat food well ahead of the eclipse.
