Think Positive-2
By:

Hi readers.

First of all thanks for reading my articles and rate my article.

I am again here to write on same topic but today also one of our reader submit article about labour job and all

Is that only thing you have to do here? You don’t have any other option than labour? If you are educated like doctor, engineer etc, why don’t you qualify or equivalent exams here? why are you afraid of these exams? Govt here even support for OCAP and UI as all desi know very well and as I said earlier if you are doctor from canada, Indian govt won't allowed you do practice as doctor there you have to clear exam there too and there no OCAP or UI for you. Then why you expect from here, I agree that here labour job and all, but have you found any discrimination for work? even manager and owner do mob and all then what’s new. So think positive.

And canada is good country for educated no dought but you have to qualify. Jow much you were getting in india? 5000Rs salary for teachers? 4000Rs for engineers? If you are experienced than you can get 10000Rs. Thats it? And here how much you are getting? What is future there for your children? Violence? Polution? I am not against india. I love my country my place. But I am against those who live in canada who want to live all life but they dont like canadian life? why so? If you dont like then why you are still here? why no one wants to go back india? Thats it if you like my article just rate me. And if you have any question do not hesitate email me at

I recently heard on the radio...during some program that if you mention at the interview that ' I really like this job', it apparently increases your chances by 30%. I dont have any data/links to back this up but thought i'd pass it on, just incase it helps someone.

I think thats a very good point. It doesnt hurt to reinforce to an employer that you are interested in the job - and why. Its recommended to research a company and learn something about it..before going to the interview so you can say 'why' you want to work for that particular company.

Jake,
In some cases, won't this indicate to your employer that you are desparate for the job and convey to the employer that you have no job at present. This action could lower your salary bargaining capacity.
Just an example :
My wife was working in a software company in Canada. Her manager dod not like her and so she was looking for another job. She got a good job elsewhere. She was desparate to leave her present job. After 2 or 3 days, she was called on the telephone and asked the salary expectations. She said " 40K-45K" (figures are just for expalanaton). So then this person said "OK, we will inform you later". My wife then said " I really like this job and i am willing even to accept 35K to 40K" (Note : A govt. Sponsered training programme has told her not to state any specific anount but to give a range). Nothing was said.
Next day , she received through e-mail, an appointment letter for 35K. She took the job but stillcompalins of losing 5K to10K b'cos she showed that she was desperate for the job.

It sounds from your wife's example that mentioning she really wanted this job wasnt necessarily the reason she got less salary but that she added the "I am willing even to accept...". She negotiated herself down (imo).

Learning experience for next time ! :)

Few weeks back I had an interview with one of my dream-job-company. Those 60 mins of interview went very well, except 4-5 mins in the 4th quarter.
Anyway, the manager gave me a polished reply "We'll get back to you within next 2-3 days".

Honestly, if I were the manager I would not have hired that guy. Same thing happened. He never "got back" to me!

So, my suggestion: Always consider failure as a learning experience.

And yea, think positive. Stay positive.

Good stuff. So for 4 minutes out of an hour, you couldn't answer something this guy asked for and for that u don't get a job. Personally are u a human or what. If I don't want someone, naturally as the person sitting on the top seat, will ask you a certain question for which u have no answer to. I can bet you right off now, that if I interview Bill Gates and put him in a situation where he won't be worth hiring for my company. No one is perfect.
Keep on learning from ur failures and join the crowd of unemployed or cleaning bathrooms.

The country doesnt have a problem with resumes. If you want your resume to stick out to an employer (out of say a 1000 resumes) you will want to have the best presentation..the easiest to read format (which highlights your skills on the first half of the page) so that the average employer (who spends 2-5 seconds on each resume) puts your resume into the 'yes' or 'maybe' pile. Not the Rejected (because it is written in an unfamiliar format or has some other formatting problems). Its not necessarily 'fair' but its how things are generally for all people - not just Immigrants.

If that's the case, why look at my unwanted, uselessly unformatted resume and waste my time. I am well beyond agreeing to those things. The only thing I can thk about is that as they themselves have no idea about anything, push it on others and then tell us no Canadian exp.

Your concern is not new. In the situation you mentioned above, it sounds like softskills, attitude/interpersonal skills etc are what is the concern to an employer when they indicate you lack canadian experience. Canadian experience is often used as a handy excuse (unfortunately this is the reality even if you dont like it) rather than having to point out to someone that you dont like their: (softskill).

Yup. as I mentioned before in another post, someone will say we don't have softskills :D Also is it me who doesn't have interpersonal skills or these idiots who give this excuse. Because if someone tells me that the only thing I can thk of these ppl are that they are not educated, don't read or don't know how to read resumes and just like to waste our time and resources. Nice pastime Canadians have found out at our expense.

I understand your perception. However every country has merits/demerits. Why did you not apply for US green card rather than Canadian PR?

Why didn't Canadians tell me after the federal govt. had given me points based on my qualifications that they don't give a "shit " about what the Govt. thinks about my qualifications. Why didn't they tell me they have so many issues. Why didn't they tell me I'll have to work as a labourer to pay my dues (lot of Canadians give me that bullshit story). If you can answer my question I'll answer ur's why I didn't apply for US green card, which anyways isn't ur concern. Ur country wanted educated immigrants and I applied on points systems.

What made you decide to leave India if you were doing well?

My choice. though I realized later on what a mistake. And as I wrote before, I accept that I can only blame myself, for not checking the reality. But that doesn't mean I will not let the world know about the reality.

Why is it that so many people who are doing good in other countries (not only India) have to struggle so hard in Canada?

Even after going to immigration aid centres & resume centres here, I did not get more than 1 interview in a job which I was interested in (although a lower designation). The importance of a good resume is paramount whether it is US, Canada or India. I did customize my resume as per the requirements of the job.

Recently one of my contacts who migrated here from Gulf got an job in computer sales as an Account Manager. The salary he is getting is about half than what others are getting in his company for the same kind of job. He was told that since he does not have Canadian experience & contacts in that field, he will get less pay. Many other companies did not offer him a job since they found him over-qualified after they asked him the pay he was getting in Gulf.

I had read an article a few months back in the Calgary Herald or Calgary Sun which mentioned the story of a taxi-driver in Canada. He was a petroleum engineer working with British Gas in the Gulf & yet when he came to Canada, he was told that he was not good enough. The article mentioned that how come he was good for British Gas & not good enough for Canada.

Rgds.
