You go for a cell phone, the cell phone comes for free but you need to sign a 2 yr contract, if you dont want to go for the contract you pay $xyz for the cell

saying that u cant have apples in bth hands,u r in a catch22 situation
not a classic example but hopefully should help

Is there any other classic example?

MagCanada:

The correct phrase is "Catch 22" not Catch 21 ..

Its the same as if I went upto someone and instead of saying 'funda' (desi slang term right?) I said "fundy" (as in "newfoundlands' bay of fundy)

:D

Here it is right from the source

Quote:

There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one's safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind. Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn't, but if he was sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn't have to; but if he didn't want to he was sane and had to. Yossarian was moved very deeply by the absolute simplicity of this clause of Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle.
"That's some catch, that Catch-22," he observed.
"It's the best there is," Doc Daneeka agreed.

Read the book by the same name, authored by Joseph Heller. That's where the phrase was coined.

I am fully aware about the Catch -22 situation or the explanation, I am not only aware about Catch 21 situation.

If there is no phrase, we will coin it.

I see...

Yeah, I wasn't aware of the catch-21 expression, its no way as widely used as catch-22.

I found the apple example at this site as well

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=catch+21

Magcanada,

I didn't mean to make fun of you. I was just in a jolly mood.

But you do bring up a good point. I have never heard of Catch 21 and it seems like it got coined for convenience purpose.

We'll discover more on this, I am sure.
