Hi all SCD and JCD,
After chewing everyones brains for the last 15 days and after a lot of contemplation and seeing the beautiful pictures( have been to Toronto quite a few times but never to Calgary) - me and my wife (who is expecting and the AHCIP not having a waiting period has not influenced this decision) have decided to move to Calgary.
Need Big Desi help : name of a guest house to stay and suggestion of good locality to rent a house (apt or condo).
Also whats the job scene like. Am a television professional( used to produce saas bahu kind of soaps, documentaries, corporate films etc) but am willing to do anything other than toss burgers (cant... am a pure veg).
Also plan to continue my education (hows the U of A...any views).
How far does CAD 50K stretch for a family of 2+1(yet to be born).
Thanks to all Annas and Akkas,
Regards

if you are planning to make Canada \ Calgary your home i dont see any problem in coming to calgary for the benifits of AHCIP.
The job scene is the best it can ever be.
Every where there are signs with help wanted and that includes places like Future Shop and Best Buy or Walmart where you do not need to toss burgers. (I know i am a vegeterian too).
I do not know of any guest houses but most folks from Asian sub continent stay in NE cagary initiall since it has
1) Good public transit and LRT connecitons.
2) You can find some good basement apartments.
3) Look for a walk out basement since it is much better then under ground basement.
For a couple of days you may want to stay at Country Inns and Suites. it is not expensive and close from the airport and also has free breakfast.
Let me know if you need any more help. and hope this helps.

....
I too came to Calgary thinking that job prospects are good. But in reality, scene is different. In Canada, wherever you go, they need canadian experience or education. So Alberta is not an exception. U of C is not good compared to Toronto/ Ontario universities. Here there is scope only for Oil & gas industry people that to ... engineers. others are just general labors. This is exclusively my opinion with practical experience. Other negative factors are less desi population and extreme winters and vehicle is a must ( high insurance costs).
When do you plan to shift?
Hi LD
should be there end of April or first week of May max.
