Disclamimer - By posting this message, I do not intend to poke fun at any particular class in the society. I am just pointing out, how difference in language can create funny situations.
Yesteray, I was watching CBC, and there was a lady called Jung Lee. Now, if you transport this name to Hindi, the meaning changes totally . What you can think of is just "yahoooo..........". So you kind of attach the adjective of "jung lee" to that lady.
There are some surnames here in Canada, that are kind of swear words in Hindi language. I would not post them here just for the sake of breach of modesty
Meghal
Sometimes, last names sound embarrasing in the same language.
I knew of a person whose last name was Urene. Poor fellow, imagine dealing with it.

Hi,
This is a professional that i know and he is from delhi. His name was (xxxx) Shite (i am hiding his first name and giving only his last name to protect his identity and to protect myself).
He never got a professional job mainly due to his name and he now works for cash in a desi gas station.
I told him numerous time to change his name but he is adament in not doing so.
Every time some one from the bank/ govt. call him, they ask: Can i speak to Mr. Shi**? (b'cos canadians usually address the last name) and he says that some canot control their laughter.

In India many of parsi surnames were based on the profession and they are funny now a days like Botliwala, Gunjawala so on so forth.
How about the famous Hindi actress currently residing in USA called Madhuri -------!

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
