Recently I have switched from Bell to Vonage for home phone service. I have to tell you Service is great for the price they provide.

If anyone has made the switch to vonage, I would like to share experiences on services. Discuss issues when using home networks with Wireless Routers and best possible settings for phone service.

It's been my experience that the following config works best

Cable Modem - VOIP BOX - Wireless Router.

Also, setting the Wireless Router to "Static IP" with the VOIP Box does wonders to both voice quality and internet speed.

Please provide more information on actual setup steps if possible. Currently I have Cable Modem - Wireless Router - VOIP Box.

My Wireless router config is setup as DHCP enabled.

Thanks.

You will plug the cable modem into the WAN port on the VOIP box and plug the Wireless Router onto the ENET port on the VOIP box. The static IP settings will have to be obtained from Vonage directly (you'll have to explain to them what you are trying to do). You can also try the following (may or may not work!!):

1. Plug the cable Modem / VOIP box / Wireless router in the aforementioned series (Please make sure the power is turned off on all 3 devices BEFORE you plug in any cables)

2. Turn power on for the devices

3. Wait 5 minutes and run the "Ipconfig /all" in the command window and note down the following

IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary and Secondry servers.

4. Access your Wireless Router's config pages and change the settings to "Static IP" and replace the exisiting settings with the the ones you noted down in step 3.

5. Save the settings and reboot the wireless router.

6. Make a test call AND check your internet connection on the PC

7. ENJOY!!!

Regards,

DT

Nope, haven't tried that yet. I don't know if your distribution box will recognize the VOIP signal. Any Telecom Engineers on board??

I read a help message on vonage site in home networking section. It says you can take a phone line from back of your VOIP box and plug into your distribution box so it will be available in all the phone jack of your home.
