As we can see, summer is going to be tough for auto drivers.
So how do we do max utilization of gas in our tanks ?
Few weeks back me (V4 accord - age 6yrs) and a friend of mine (V6 camry - age 16 yrs) went to Niagara park. It was 120KM drive and back.
On our way to the park, the V6 Camry was following me. So I had to drive at 115KMP speed. (Yes, strictly 115. At 120 I could see my friend trailing behind).
On my way back, I switched to my usual behavior. With almost zero traffic I touched 130, then dropped back to 120 and even 110.
After reaching my home, I noticed that the gas consumption was ~10-20% more during my return trip. I might have saved max 10 mins over 120KM distance.
It was then I realized that following do help:
. Optimum driving speed 110KmpH. Over speeding drinks too much gas.
And following do helps
. Proper tire inflation
. Closed windows
. Proper auto maintenance.
. Use smaller vehicle (V4, or echo or even yaris )
Any other driving-behaviour-tips that could help me drive few additional meters for every liter?
Edit: Ooh, using public transport do help, but not during vacation/picnic trips
Good tips!
Or you may consider buying an oil and gas trust which will more than offset high gas costs in dividend payments and price appreciation. You know what they say if you can't win em join em.

I have only 2 cents to contribute, not a cent more, not a cent less ;-)
10-15% if you drove at 100kph! With gas prices touching a dollar per litre, I have begun to observe the speed limit. and to my amazement, I get about 20% more mileage even in the city!

The answer is very simple. Forget a 4 cylinder or a Yaris. Buy Diesel. 1000kms to a full tank of diesel of 55 ltrs. 7 out of 10 cars sold in Europe are diesels. You can buy a Mercedes S class , BMW 7 series and a Audi A8 in diesel too. India is also buying more diesel cars every year. The North Americans are way behind the rest of the world in the automotive industry. But then the Norh Americans are way behind Europe in everything!

[quoteAgreed. But is'nt this like pushing the problem rather than fixing it ?
I will be more intrested in changing my driving behaviour. I consider that as a long term solution
