Hello All,

Summer is here. :cheers: Everybody has some favorite picnic places which they go often to have good times. The purpose of this post is to create a list of family oriented picnic places, so everyone can use this to make this summer really fun.

Please post following information to make it more useful.

1. Address – So everyone can get directions from maps website
2. Features – Beach, Gardens, Kids play area, Park Trail, Biking Trails, Barbeque Grills, Picnic sheds, Volley Ball nets etc.
3. Your Experiences with this place

I searched for this in CD but nothing came up. If CD already has similar post, please post link so we don’t clutter CD with duplicate threads.

Description of beach - Sand dunes and pebble beach.
Description of water - Deep in areas.
Is there a buoyed area - No
Length of beach - 609m
Change facilities - Yes

Undertow may be experienced in Lake Erie. Use extra caution on windy days.
Camping: 178 campsites in total - 81 electrical. Most campsites are spacious and well buffered from neighbours.

Group Camping: There are three group camping sites that accommodate up to 35 people. Water taps and washrooms with flush toilets are located nearby. The site is located in close proximity to the beach, and is about a five minute drive to the comfort station. The site is available for use by any groups. For reservations, call the park directly at (905) 774-6642.
Picnics and Day Use: There are many various activities that are available for day users, picnic grounds with shelter and a playground are good in the spring and summer as well as fishing, biking, and swimming.
Electric Sites - 81 Electrical Sites

Barrier Free Access: Laundromat, Park Store, Showers, Flush Toilets.

Park Store: Ontario Parks souvenir merchandise, wood, ice, snacks, hot coffee, cold beverages, newspapers, camping supplies, groceries, novelties, ice cream and bike rentals. There is also a hot food section in the store where we sell, hotdogs, fries, burgers, onion rings etc. It is open weekends from the third weekend in May, June, September to the second weekend in October, July & August 9 till 9 daily.

Showers: Yes (located in the center of the east and west campgrounds).
Flush Toilets - Yes (Located in comfort stations).
Laundromat - Yes

Play Area: Yes -Two, one in the center of the campground, and the other in the day-use area.

Rentals: PFD Loan Service For a $25 refundable deposit, visitors can borrow a properly fitted PRD for themselves and their children. Staff can provide additional information and can outfit visitors with a PFD at the Park Store.

Selkirk

Total Est. Time: 2 hours, 4 minute Total Est. Distance: 92.31 miles

The shallow waters off the 200-m shoreline are nicely warmed for the summer. The beach is stoney in nature and swimmers must walk out 50-75 metres to get to sandbar. Because of the "cove" nature of the beach area, seaweed does accumulate from time to time depending on weather conditions.
Camping: 142 sites in total, 62 of which have electrical service. (50 of the electrical sites are SEASONAL)

Group Camping: There are two group camping sites that can accommodate 30 people each. Both have washrooms on site and water taps nearby. The sites are close to the picnic area, and a few minutes from the water. It is a ten minute walk to the comfort station. The area is available for use by any quiet group. Reservations can be made by calling the park directly at (905) 776-2600.

Picnics and Day Use: Large day use picnic area located near lake and playground. Small fast food take out restaurant also located in this area.

Turkey Point:

Total Est. Distance: 117.18 miles

The two-kilometre sandy beach in the village of Turkey Point and the bay's warm shallow waters provide excellent family swimming. The beach is approximately 1 km from the park office and 1.5 kms from the campgrounds. You can walk or bike to beach but most people choose to drive. Your valid campground permit will allow entry to the beach parking lot.

Description of water - Free of underwater currents.
Is there a buoyed area - Yes
Length of beach - 2 km
Change facilities - Yes - washroom/change rooms located at the main beach and access points at Albert and Tyler Streets in village.

Camping Turkey Point has 3 campgrounds with 235 campsites in total. The campgrounds have many wooded areas to provide shade and shelter. Most sites are shaded, large and well distanced from neighbouring sites.
The park also offers 2 Group Camping areas (one at north end of park and one at south end) which are rated for groups of 30 - 40 people.
Group Camping There are two group camping sites, one accommodates 12-40 people, and the second accommodates 12-30 people. Both sites have vault toilets on-site and water nearby. It is approximately 2 km from the beach, and a short walk to the comfort stations. Reservations can be made by calling the park directly at (519) 426-3239.

Picnics and Day Use The park has a picnic day use area with washroom, tables, water, and playfield. It is situated close to campgrounds but not the the beach which is located in the village of Turkey Point. The beach is approx. 1 km from the picnic area and most people choose to drive to the beach. The day use permit will allow entry to both the park/picnic area and to the day use beach parking lot in the village.
Electric Sites 104 sites with electricity, (67 located in Walkingstick Woods Campground, 29 located in Whippoorwill Campground and 8 located in Fin & Feather Campground).

Barrier Free Access - Swimming, Laundromat, Showers, Flush Toilets The park also has 2 disabled accessible campsites, one with electrical hook up and one without. (Site # 81-E and Site # 212)
Park Store Turkey Point has a small store located in the park office/registration office. Here you can purchase Ontario Parks souvenirs, ice, snacks, firewood, some camper supplies and other necessities such as film, batteries and bug repellent.
Showers Yes. There are 6 showers located in each large campground for a total of 12. Two of these, (1 in each comfort station) are handicapped accessible showers.
Showers are located at the comfort stations in the Whippoorwill and Walking Stickwoods Campgrounds
Flush Toilets - Yes
Flush toilets are located at the comfort stations in the Whippoorwill and Walkingstick Woods Campgrounds. There are also flush toilets located in the vault toilet buildings located in all campgrounds as well as the Group Camping Areas.
Laundromat Laundromats are located in each of the 2 main comfort stations in Walkingstick Woods and Whippoorwill campgrounds.
Play Area - Yes The main playground area is located on the main road entering the campgrounds just south of Walkingstick Woods and next to the picnic/activity shelter.
Boat Launch - No Boat launching facilities are located in the village of Turkey Point at the Turkey Point Marine Basin Marina. There is a charge to launch.

Rentals Turkey Point has 2 4-5 person tents for rent. Tents rent for $12.50 per day which includes all taxes.
BBQ-single & Group, trailer storage Single BBQ's are $8.00 per day including propane. The group BBQ is located at the picnic/activity shelter and is included in the rental price of the shelter which is $50.00 per day. Trailer storage is available by the day, week, month and overwinter from closing at Thanksgiving until opening in early May. Consult the park for rates.
Extension cords are also available for rent for those that require additional length to reach the electrical pedestal.
Some sports equipment is also available free of charge (with a deposit) such as horeshoes, basketballs, volleyballs.
Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) are available through the ParkSmart PFD Loan Service. For a $25 refundable deposit, visitors can borrow a properly fitted PRD for themselves and their children. Available at either the Beach Kiosk or at the Park Office.

Long Point:

Canoeing Canoe from the park's boat launch out into extensive marshes. No river routes available in or near the park.
Wildlife Viewing Long Point is renowned worldwide as an important refuge and stopover point for migrating birds, especially waterfowl.

Docking facilities - Yes
Swimming Exceptional sand beach and shallow swimming area, ideal for families of all ages.

Other A half basketball court can be found in the Firefly campground. You can borrow a basketball by leaving a $20 deposit at the park office.
Hunting Hunting in this park is subject to the Ontario Hunting Regulations. Certain restrictions apply. For more information, contact the park or your local area or district office of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Camping The camp has 256 campsites, 78 of which have electrical hook-ups. The 52 sites in the Firefly campground are all pull-through. All campsites are within a five minute walk of the beach.

Large pull through campsites with electrical hookup allows easy access for large camping units.

Laundromat The park has 1 laundromat located in the comfort station at the Monarch's Rest Campground.
Play Area Long Point has 3 children's play areas; in the Turtle Dunes, Cotton Wood and Firefly campgrounds.

Port Burwell

This park in Canada's "Deep South" is one of the best for witnessing spring migrations of songbirds and fall migrations of raptors, monarch butterflies, blue jays and dragonflies. Steep bluffs shelter stands of oak and maple. Between bluffs and warm water's edge are ribbons of dunes, beach savanna and meadow.

Length of beach - 1000 metres maintained - 2500 meters total

The beach is one of the high points for most park visitors. The water is shallow, sandy and due to our southerly latitude, very warm.
The beach now features a nine hole Frisbee golf course located along the edge of the dunes.

Picnics and Day Use Picnic grounds with shelter comfort station and a playground Flush toilets, barbecues, shaded areas and easy access to the beach.

Picnic shelter may be reserved. A highlight for any trip to Port Burwell Provincial Park includes a trip to the excellent beach. The beach is raked weekly and grounds are very clean and well maintained. This park is an excellent place for family reunions or group picnics.
