I was wondering why dont companies actively recruit on campus here at canadian univs. I know they do to some extent but only a few students are recruited on campus..rest have to fetch for jobs on their own. I am at Univ of Toronto doin masters degree and am kinda worried if I will manage to land a job through on campus recruitment.
The trend in India is very different (atleast in good colleges/univs). Students get recruited on campus quite easily and in large nos. I can personally vouch for that....I did my B.E. at Punjab Engg College(PEC), Chandigarh where all my batch mates got multiple job offers (including me) through on campus recruitment.
I know India is a growing economy and has a lot of jobs to offer....but still here one would expect various companies to recruit at top canadian univs like UofT. So why dont we see them recruiting that actively on campus?
Look at IIMs and other top b-schools in India where companies(including international) flock at campus to recruit. But its not the same scene at Ivey or Rotman or Schulich (or even at wharton or kellogs in US) which are better b-schools than in india as suggested by several international b-school rankings. Is it the same scene at US univs too?
You are absolutly right. They are really bad at this. Its been the same and has not changed. I graduated over a decade ago and it was the same 10 % of the class would be hired but now its even worse. At Weapplyforyou.com we are doing dozens and dozens of students from various programs who are given no direction. Each university has a set group of clients but they also go to all other universities and colleges. Eg. 60-70 % of last years class (0T5) from a perticular university from elec engineering did not get a job. We have helped so many of them but its a surprise that they could not get help.
This the same for almost all universities and colleges. Times are also tough. People used to come to these places because they needed people now its not that simple.

You really should start 4- months before you graduate. If you start now you will compete with another 1000 set of engineers on top of last years class and new experienced immigrants that also apply. So attack and go get it. Even if you do it yourself do it. We are just a tool to get you there faster.
You are welcome to attend some of the setions we do. We just did one for UFT Chinese Engineering Student Association 3 weeks ago and have one in Bramton tomorow.
