Is there some sort of a governing body for auto ins in Ontario where we could cross check the issues? The ins firms/agents speak on their own behalf. Whether they are telling the truth that conforms to the rules in Ontario or not. Is there a way to crosscheck with a Ontario auto ins body thru either website or phone?

Yes there is a body under Ministry of Finance.
They regulate insurance and fault determination rules in case of accidents.
I do not have website on hand, but when you do a search in Ministry of Finance, you will find it
Try the Insurance Bureau of Canada - http://ibc.ca/

can you tell me what do you want to cross-check.
Here in Ontario, there are only private companies operating. If you just want to cross check the premium rate, it is all upto their discretion. If they are denying insurance, then you can go to govt help.
Can you give more detail.
