Has any body looked to fix the gas, electicity rates?
What is better fixed or floating?
In Toronto it is almost 41c for natural gas per unit and looking for an increase in electricity prices. It is getting very expensive now and gas prices hovering at aboyt $1/litre.

Any suggestion?

For electricity and gas price comparisons on a fixed price contract, check out energyshop.com at the following link:

I signed up to a 5 year contract at 29.5 cents for gas and it's been working out great for the past 18 months. I got to tell you that the rate was about 26 cents when I signed up, so I was hoping for the gas prices to rise so I could be at an advantage. Now the non-contract rate is 41 cents.

I have also signed up for Hydro One electric at 8 cents as opposed to the current 5 cents or so. Supposedly, the rates are going up to 12 cents....

This is in Windsor.

So the fixed price do work I guess.

But beware of showing your gas bill to any of the door to door sales persons. The account no is considered to be confidential and the moment you share that is like signing up for the deal.

Just to continue on the same thread on a related experience..
I used to live in an Apartment in Etobiocke where I had to pay my own hydro (1 bed). My bill came around $70 -$80 for 2 months. I belive that the heater (could not regulate it and was regulated by the owner) was paid for by the owner of the apartment.
I recently moved to a 2 bed apartment in a neighbouring town. The room heater could be regulated by me and we keep it at 24 Deg. Cent all the time (24 hrs. a day) and we use the same amount of Hydro as we used to do so before. The bill came yesterday and I found that we had to pay $299 for 55 days use (3000 KWH).
Can I confirm with someone if these are the kind of hydo bills that you guys pay for similar apartment area? This is around $150 extra to my rent reach month. Is there any way that I can sign up with Direct Energy and such people to lower the rates?
TK A
Sidenote : We called up a neighbour and she gave us these tips to lower hydro prices. Change all lamps to energy efficinet ones. Turn off all the heaters for areas not in Use/ when going outside. When you come back, Turn it on to full heat and once the room heats up , put the therostat at 20 or 22 deg. cent.

I believe the non-contract rate is 26cents for Gas and I am paying that. I do not know how it can be different.

I do not believe in signing up for the contract as in the end you pay more in contracted rate than non-contracted rate

Agents come to my door and ask for the bill, I tell them I do not get paper bill as I have signed for EBill.

TK,
The average Hydro consumption for a single family home is 1000 Kw. Your bill is too high.
