We are looking for an apartment or a walk-in basement in Mississauga. We want something where we do not have to sign a 12 month contract but a preferably a 60 day notice before vacating. Two bedroom. Any suggestions where I can look for this?
CD members who have recently gone through the process of searching for an apartment can give their inputs.
You maybe able to find a basement apartment easily with your conditions. Apartments or Condos though could be a tough game. I may have been able to help you of your requirement was 1 bedroom only effective july.

Are you there?
There is an apartment in Mississauga (near Dundas -Hurontario) at Paisley road. I think the apartment no is 518 or 580.
This apartment offers just 2 months notice clause (NO one year lease).
The apartment has 1,2,3 bedroom vacancies.
It is not very clean but the apartment is big and the rates are low.
and if you live in a owner's basement or apt.. then you can try to negotiate a month by month lease.

Sidenote : How i know this is b'cos i have friends who are working in IT and are on work permit and they want to play the safe thing b'cos they donot know when the project will end. Try to avoid Desi's basement or apartment since they will always try to poke their nose into your affairs and see how you maintain the apartment etc...

Agree with you completely but if you are in an apartment, the superindendant does not care how you maintain the house.
I have had a lot of horror stories by people living in owner occupied buildings. Some of them are :
1. Will not heat the rooms properly. if we put on the cooking range/ oven for heat , then they will complain or ask us to pay extra charge.
2. Will not allow scratching on the walls with crayons (esp. for people with babies)
3. all fixtures and appliances are at the tenants risk. If water is leaking you need to call a plumber to fix it at your own cost.
4. will not allow friends/ relatives to stay for extended period of time.
5. Every time, you see them outside, they will complain of something.
Just what i heard from people. Maynot be true for every house owner/ tenant.

Sidenote: I will never stay in owner owned places.
