I do not see any mention of Halifax as on option for moving , doesn't the industry provide jobs or is the weather to harsh for CDs........any experience
Hello Azami,
Just read your post. I and my husband have moved to Halifax just about 4 weeks back. I had posted myself on this site asking if anyone is form here, but nobody responded. So the best thing is to discover the city on your own, which we did, and have fallen in love with. It’s true that the desi population is not as much as in Toronto or Vancouver. There are about 300 families here, but most are based in Dartmouth area, which is just across the bridge from Halifax. We however are in main downtown of Halifax. It’s a vibrant city with many cultures. There is a gurudwara and a mandir too.
Coming on the job front, it’s getting better at least in the IT industry. I'm not quite sure about other fields. The weather...well we are yet to experience it, as this year the winters were quite mild. But I must say the winters are not as bad as they are on Ottawa. I’m surprised that people don't consider this part of Canada for their future. The best thing about this place is it’s a mixture of both, nature and commercial side of the city. It's got some lovely huge gardens and parks. And yes...while walking on the streets you don't feel as if you are in India part 2 (no offense intended). It’s got a healthy mix of both sides. All in all...its a great city to live in, provided you do your homework before thinking of setteling here.
Hope this helps.
Goodday!
I agree with you "shortbread". You come to Canada to escape India and all you see in Toronto is Indians and Chinese.

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
