I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible.
But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.

HYDERABAD: The state government on Thursday banned the controversial film The Da Vinci Code from being screened in Andhra Pradesh. The film was scheduled for release on Friday.

The move came a day after Tamil Nadu banned the Tom Hanks starrer on the grounds that it would hurt religious sentiments and lead to disruption of peace in the state.

A GO issued by the state home department on Thursday said the movie was being banned as the government felt that the exhibition of the film could cause "breach of peace and hurt religious sentiments of the Muslim and Christian community".

The release of the movie, the government felt, could lead to demonstrations; disturb peace and tranquillity in the state. The ban was a result of the representations made by various minority organisations and Christian organisations in particular against the release of the movie.

The organisations had contended that the screening of the movie would offend religious sentiments. "Reports from government agencies indicate that some Christian groups may take recourse to agitation if the film is released and that untoward incidents may take place," the GO said.

Apart from the English version, the release of the Telugu and Hindi versions of the film were also banned in the state. Christian-dominated Meghalaya also joined Andhra Pradesh in banning the film on Thursday.

Earlier, Punjab and Nagaland had also banned the screening of the film that deals with conspiracy theories regarding the church. While it was a moment of triumph for the protesters, for cine-goers and theatre owners the ban has come as a big shock and even bigger disappointment.

Sadly, attacking Religious grounds has become one of the yet another cheap marketing technique. As you know, such controversies immediately gain the attention and the creator bags what he or she intended interms of Money and Popularity.

Did you folks hear some Netherland paper published Hindu God cartoons and well before this there was another stunt from the Danish Newspaper who portrayed the Muslim Prophet.
Sometime back in UK I beleive, there were slippers printed with Hindu God pictures and out of strong resistence from the public, the prodcuts didn't move much or banned.

CHENNAI: Filmgoers and Dan Brown aficionados in Tamil Nadu were in for a last minute disappointment, as the Tamil Nadu government suspended for three months the screening of The Da Vinci Code late on Thursday evening. The thriller based on Dan Brown’s bestseller was to open in theatres in the state on Friday.
