hi guys.. can someone help me out on this.. I did see the other posts on the same topic but couldn't find the answer I was looking for.. what is the best way to bring/transfer funds from US to Can ? do I have to bring the min CD$ at the port of entry or will the stmt of my US bank work ? do I have to show the entire amount or just some (the min) will do and the remaining I can transfer (via wire or depositing check of US bank to Self) once I open the acct in Canada ?
I have sufficient funds so don't want to carry it all with me from safety point of view. I also would prefer to come there first and open the acct after selecting a bank (HSBC, RBC etc) instead of opening the acct in Canada from US itself and transfer everything over.
pls advise.
thanks.
AG.
There is no need to carry the cash amount with you, if you have current bak statement then that will work fine. If you don't then try to get it from your bank or you can print it our from internet if you can.
I would say try to get it from your bank if you ...
Have fun

Is it must to have a proof of funds at Port of Entry ???
Will Bank Certificate be accepted instead of Bank Statment. Since we get bank statement (Head Office) quaterly and I will get one in Jan'04. The athourity at Port of Entry may doubt on autnentication Bank statement which I get from Branch office.
vivek
thanks Gary.. so I need NOT carry any amt with me (other than few US$) and the bank stmt should alone suffice.. can others/Mr. Massood also pls confirm this.
once I enter into Canada I cannot re-enter US coz no multiple-entry H1 visa.. so just want to make sure everything's right before I cross the border.
thanks.
Hi All,
I am landing by the next two weeks.I had said in my application that I would bring US$1200 when I land in. Now I have this much in my US bank . So when I land, I show them only this bank statement (bank immigration letter) right? And need no draft etc. ? I'm landing and will come back in few days and I do not need much money for my few days in Canada.
Thanks,
Sunanda
Hi,
You can carry the bank statment. If possible, have a DD for a small amount.
I assume that there is a typo in your post as you had said US$1200. For one person, you have to show around C$10,000.
When I landed, the immigration officer didn't ask the proof of funds even though I carried the bank statment.
