I know Keane hires in helifax.
Also got a call other day from couple of IT consulting firms..
Yes Keane and CGI do hire for Halifax. If you are in IT you've gotta a shot. Other professions, not really. That still doesn't really change the issue with cost of living though.
If you are getting realy good offer from IT company then you should go there. its good to get into field rather then looking at choice of city... more IT companie and other Telecom Companies is looking at atlantic side now.. so this is the best time to get in.
all the best
from Halifax - Canada's Ocean playground
Yes , this is an IT company and the offer is for CAD 60 K .
I am just wondering that if I shift there , how easy / difficult it would be to get back to a job in Toronto / Vancouver as Halifax is afar and being in Tor / Van one can switch jobs easily .
If one needs to stay which are the popular places amongst Desis ?

Since I worked for Keane in Halifax, I can tell you that 60K is considered a good salary by Halifax standards. I have already gone over the high cost of living issues in my earlier post so won't repeat them here. Really the choice would be yours.
I will also add that it is difficult to get jobs in Toronto once in Halifax as it is pretty far off.
Halifax is undoubtedly a beautiful place. There are no specific areas concentrated with desis, so there is no real 'desi area' to stay. The city is small enough that no place is too far away from anything.
Yellow Knife ,
Please check pm.
Thanks .

Hi Guys ,
Let me recount my experience with Halifax in brief . Whatever I state would be in comparision with Toronto or specific to Halifax .
Halifax is a small but major city of Nova Scotia which alongwith New Brunswick are 02 provinces of Atlantic Canada . Halifax is based on the sea shore and is the major Canadian Port .
The population is approx 400 000 plus . Its a small place as compared to Toronto . Downtown consists of just a couple of streets and is largely inundated with business establishment and pubs .
People are mostly whites unlike Toronto and one needs to go slow with our language and accent otherwise one keeps on hearing a .. Whats that ?? phrase .
Its slightly laid back but beautiful place with lots of waterviews . Houses are cheaper and so are the rents .Overall and the topography is more mountainous @ places than plain . Major University center - Dalhousie and St Marys Univ being 2 major ones .
Akmost all the major stores are present viz Sears (incl an Outlet store ) Zellers , Bay , Walmart , Canadian Tire and .. you name it .
People are frinedly and laid back unlike the contemporary Toronto counterparts but are majorly natives and less Immigrants unlike GTA . Crime is present in higher proportion as not being an economically rich province couple with generations of natives who have not got good jobs ... its just like any regular society unlike Toronto which has a continuous influx of Immigrants . Indians and desis are less but not uncommon to find .
Dartmouth is the twin city of Halifax and is situated just a 4 min by bridge / 10 minutes by ferry away .Transportation is good and cheaper . Not many wide roads or highway or heavy traffic. Nature wise the place is beautiful. I would update this thread with another article I have somewhere wrt residential locations in Halifax .
Cheers and Happy New Year 2007 to all .
