Hi,
My baby was born in Canada and I need to get my babies birth registeration process expedited. My wife is travelling to India next month with the baby and I was looking at ways to get the birth regaisteration process expedited so that I can apply for my baies Indian visa faster. My wife is planning to stay in India for approximately 9 months before returning back to Canada.
If it helps I am a Canadian Citizen.
Thank You

First of all this is a wrong place to place your query. This section is used by people to get their Immigration queries answered by an expert.
Secondly i assume that you are in Ontario. For ontario , birth certificate link is this : http://www.cbs.gov.on.ca/mcbs/english/births.htm
Getting a birth certificate for a child is a complicated process whereby you first need to register birth and for this you have to apply to register your birth at the nearest city centre to your place of living. Secondly you need to apply for birth certificate and then there is long form and short form.
If the wait times are unacceptable to you , then you can go to the City of Toronto (only place) and then apply for emergency birth certificate. this needs comes additional fees and documents.
Research properly and understand the various terms involved.
It does not matter if you are a PR, Citizen, a refugee or a visitor. The child only needs to be born in Canada and he/she will then become a Canadian citizen and all these previlages come to the child based on his/her status and not on yours.
All the best.

Thread moved to "General" section.
As replied by TK, birth registration is a two-step process. You probably would need long form of birth certificate for Canadian passport.

Service Ontario - By the Govt. of Ontario guarantees a birth certificate in 15 days or it's free, and you can apply online too.

Alternatively, you can get the Travel Letter/Division Registrar Statement from the City of Toronto and submit this along with the visa application. Check with Passport Canada if their rules have recently changed. We used this late last year while the Birth Registration was in progress. You'll also need this document while travelling.
Here's more info. on the City of Toronto web-site :

Since my baby was born in Mississauga does anybody know how long the birth registration process for a child in Mississauga takes. I specifically am looking for the time frame for birth registration, and not for the birth certificate. The website for Ministry of Govt. Services http://www.cbs.gov.on.ca/mcbs/english/ORG_servicetimes.htm says 6 - 8 weeks, while the website http://www.mississauga.ca/portal/cityhall/birthregistrations for City Hall at Mississauga says 3 months. I read on one of the posts on CD that for Kingston it takes 3 months.
Thanks..
