Hey,
I was wondering what should I do with my Indian passport after I got my canadian citizenship.
Someone said to me that I should return it to indian consulate when applying for OCI.
Is it true?
can't I just give copies of my indian passport to OCI instead?
thanks in advance for your help
THANKS EVERYBODY. I was very happy to see that this year INFOSYS hired students from top univ of Canada and US for internship and took them to Bangalore.I was talking to some of the students from U Of Toronto and Univ of WATERLOO few weeks back and I was amazed to see that the cream of Canada (students from Indian origin and other countries too) were really crazy about google, microsoft,IBM and Infosys. I was again surprised to see that students of indian origin from these two universities were no more interested to go to US AND THEY DID NOT MIND APPLYING FOR INDIAN CITIZENSHIP after joining big companies in India and this citizenship would permit them to apply for govt jobs. The salaries given by Infosys and IBM India I think may not be same as those in USA but the cost of living makes India an attractive destination.
when I renewd our passports the Indian embassy put a stamp on it saying that this person may have tasken canadian citizenship . my guess is that when we travel to India now we will need to show our candian pr cards to prove that we are nort canadian citizens? do they take the card away once you get the canadian passport? you might need a PIO card now so you dont need a visa to travel home
They do take your PR card away once you become a citizen. However this is the first time I am hearing passports being stamped 'Might have taken Canadian citizenship' while you still have your PR card. I would think that embassy officials would be aware of the fact that you need to surrender your PR card once you become a Canandian citizen. Seems a pretty stupid move on the Indian embassy's part if this is indeed what happened.

indian passport
some of my friends from pakistan use pakistani passport while going to pakistan and use canadian passport while coming back to canada. Can someone tell me why the same thing cannot be done using indian passport also ? Why do they cancel the indian passport while issuing visa or PIO or OCI ? Does it mean that we lose the indian citizenship when we apply for visa on canadian passport ? Does it deny us from applying for any govt job in india or applying to any indian university (with tution fees same as that of indian citizens)
thanks in advance

You may do this, if you want to keep your indian passport and canadian passport as well.
(1). Depart Canada for India on Indian passport. (so far no problem).
(2). Enter India and enjoy your stay.
(3). Leave India and enter Nepal. As long as you look like an Indian, Indian immigration don't bother .
(4). At the Nepal port of entry show your Canada passport and get an entry stamp.
(5). Leave Nepal on Canada passport as you already have an Nepal entry stamp.
Note: The only issue here could be that the Nepal immigration authorities don't ask you to show 'entry/exit stamp' when you were in India. I am not sure about this. Somebody may enlighten you on this.
