Hi,

I am a Canadian Citizen(with dual Indian citizenship) and my wife is a landed immigrant (Permanent Resident) in Canada with Indian citizenship.

My wife has to travel immediately to India and would like to take our new-born baby with her. She will be in India for the next 8 months. Can she get the babies name added to her Indian passport and take the baby with her to India for the 8 months. In the meanwhile I will get the babies birth certificate and Canadian passport done here. Could there be any problems at immigration in India and Canada while going and on the way back?

Thank you
R

I believe nowadays you need to have seperate passport for child. It is applicable for all countries.

If you need, you can get Birth certificate in 48 hours
https://www.orgforms.gov.on.ca/eForms/start.do?lang=en

and passport same day by paying extra fee. $70+passport fee
http://www.ppt.gc.ca/can/submit.aspx?lang=e

Another day is required for Indian Visa.

Baby is Canadian citizen and baby's mother is Indian citizen. So, I do not think adding baby's name to mother's passport is even an option. Canadian citizens would need some sort of visa to travel to India.

First of all, you need to submit "Statement of Live Birth" to the city office in which your child was born. Only after they send confirmation of registration, you can apply for birth certificate. Long form of birth certificate is like an attested copy of "Statement of Live Birth" that you fill out.

Ask them if there is a way it can be done quicker. Typically it takes around 90 days to register birth in Kitchener (I think it would depend on city too).

Births are registered by Ontario Govt. The standard is same accross the province. Apply on line for 15d delivery period . If needed in 48 hours then individual has to go to ON GOV office at Macdonald House, Bay and Wellington

Wrong. You cannot be dual citizen of Canada and India because India does not allow dual citizenship. You can hold a PIO Card and travel with a valid forieign passport.

Your baby is a Canadian Citizen . How can a canadian citizen name be added to Indian passport, which is issued only to Indian nationals.

You have to take a Canadian passport and a Indian Visa for your daughter to accompany your wife.

If you do not have the them ready , I suggest that you talk to the Indian consulate about any special conditions.

Also make sure you have proper documentation for your new born baby for the retun trip to Canada.

There is some police reporting to be done in India if a foreign national stays for more than six months .

Clarify all these things with the Indian consulate before they leave.

You cannot get a birth certificate in 15 days unless the birth is registered. Though hospital sends record to city office, you still need to complete "Statement of Live Birth."

Typically it takes about 90 days to register birth in Kitchener (I think would depend on city too). Service time on minstry's website says 6-8 weeks but I guess it would depend on municipal office too.

Only after the municipal office sends you confirmation letter, you can apply for birth certificate, which you can apply online and get within 15 days or less .

See http://www.cbs.gov.on.ca/mcbs/english/register_birth.htm

Please also reflect if this travel is safe/advicable for the baby's health. Wouldnt recommend until atleast 3 months of age. By that time you can arrange all the required dox...

All the best.
