HI! FRIENDS,
I AM SANJEEV (FROM INDIA- DELHI) AN ELECTRONICS ENGINEER BY PROFESSION- WORKED IN SALES &MKT-ING FEILD- 10 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN DEALING WITH GLASS SHELL & COLOURED PICTURED TUBES OF T.V's.
MIGRATED TO CANADA 2 MONTHS BACK. JOINED ENERGY SELLING COMPANY AS SALES REPRESENTATIVE(DOOR TO DOOR SALES) FOR 1 MONTH. MY FAMILY(WIFE & A 6 YEARS OLD SON) JOINED ME JUST 1 MONTH BACK.
WITH ODD WORKING HOURS & BEING TIRED WITH DOOR TO DOOR WITH NO BREAK FOR MY PERSONAL IMIGRATION FORMALITIES(SIN CARD, LICENCE TESTS, KIDS SCHOOL ADDMISSION, SHIFTING, ETC), I HAD TO TAKE A BREAK FROM MY JOB. STILL LOOKING FOR ANOTHER JOB OPPORTUNITY.
I AM TOO CONFUSED FOR UPGRADATION OF MY QUALIFICATIONS. TO MY SURPRISE, THERE NO SUCH FIELD RELATED TO MY EXPERIENCE OF INDIA (TV's, PICTURE TUBES,ETC). I HAVE ENG. DEGREE BUT WORKED IN MARKETING FEILD, THAT MEANS NO TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE OF ENG.
I EXPLORED FOR SAP, ENG., FINANCE RELATED FEILDS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT BEING NEW TO THIS COUNTRY WITH LIMITED INFORMATION &A VERY FEW CONTACTS IAM NOT GETTING THE TRUE PICTURE OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED FIELDS.
1. THE JOB PROSPECTS & EARNINGS
2. IN WHICH FIELD IT IS WORTH SPENDING MONEY &TIME.
ALL MY DESI FRIENDS ARE REQUESTED TO HELP ME THEIR VALUEABLE EXPERIENCES & ADVICE ASAP.
IT WILL BE A GREAT HELP FOR ME.
SANJEEV
You could try for job at Futureshop or Sears. You would fit into the home theatre or audio business. But I guess you require SIN to apply at Futureshop.
For a career in finance go to http://www.csi.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK This might help. CSC is a must to get into finance. You may also consider insurance as a career. Go advocis site andget more info.
Sanjeev,
Relax and try to think, if you have to make a career change what it will be. For that if you need to upgrade your qualification go for it. I guess you are a legal immigrant therefore you will qualify for Student loan. Only part that you will miss on loan is Bursary (Scholarship).
Don't get fixed to one option, that is marketing. Try other avenues, make a career move. Whatever you feel is best for your satisfaction.
Being an engineer and working for future shop or any chain will not give you career satisfaction. Think hard and make a move. Best of luck buddy.
I was told this and now I am telling you. This is your incubation period in Canada. Everybody has gone thru this phase....make best use of it to transform yourself into the system.

Sanjeev,
My understanding of the process if it can help you, represent your case to Technical body as an application engineer instead of marketing & sales. It may become a hurdle for you to link technical to pure sales job of submission of quote and picking orders. In Canada techincal selling is more of inside sales protfolio. I have sales background from India but I have successfully made a career move by moving to Manufacturing using my Engineering background and upgradation. If that can help you, I guess
