Interesting article on research done about the possible link between races and intelligence.

Of course, with all the political over-correctness that we have floating around nowadys, the researcher had to move away from his work. Interesting that nobody/institution seems to have the courage to even pursue such theories.

This report is based on the result of the study done by one research group. So one cannot jump into conclusions based on the data generated by this research and blindly believe the views of one researcher.

Dr. Lahn has drawn sharp fire from other leading genetics researchers. They say the genetic differences he found may not signify any recent evolution -- and even if they do, it is too big a leap to suggest any link to intelligence. "This is not the place you want to report a weak association that might or might not stand up," says Francis Collins, director of the genome program at the National Institutes of Health.

Several scientific groups have set out to disprove or challenge Dr. Lahn's discoveries. Scientists at the Broad Institute, a top genetics center in Cambridge, Mass., have been reanalyzing some of the data and say they may challenge Dr. Lahn's finding that evolution acted on ASPM, one of the genes. Broad's influential chief, Eric Lander, says scientists probing recent evolution run the risk of "seeing a difference, and saying there is a story to fit it."

A team at the University of California, Los Angeles, recently tested whether the gene variants actually affect brain size. They studied DNA from 120 people whose brain volumes they had already measured using magnetic-resonance imaging. They didn't find any difference. "It certainly makes you want to look at other explanations" of what the variations mean, says Roger P. Woods, a UCLA brain-mapping expert who reported the results in May.

I don't know about intelligence but i can see that the white Canadian is more confident then a desi person. It must be due to the upbringing in a rich country which generates a natural confidence in an individual.

Compared to a Desi Univesity graduate i find a White Candian High school graduate has more confidence in life.

That is to do with social conditioning I feel. I've seen the same confidence in Indians who have lived in Europe or North America for a large part of their lives.

That's true Alexm the Professional Desis i met here ahd that lack of Self Confidence and they tried to hide that by doign Canada Bashing, White man bashing and in general trying to prove that Indian culture is superior to all the cultures in the world.

I agree it is partially social conditioning.

It depends on your parents, your other role models and the freedom given as a child to explore your surroundings..how safe you felt the world was etc. North Americans also have a percentage of people with low self esteem, clinical depression etc.

One thing that I have noticed is that some confident people treat others equally. In other words, they arent bowing down to status, position and insist on calling people by their first names (ie/ bosses and doctors)...

I agree. Whenever i get introduced in a Desi social circle i am introduced as my name and i am an engineer.
Then the others are also introduced similarly like Mr.Sharma he is a doctor, Mr.gupta CA but in a white guys party the introduction is just first names . I may be loading shelves in Walmart for all they care.
The wife of the Chief surgeon of our town is my wives friend and she is such a simple lady you will not realise it that her husnad makes half a million dollars a year.
And in our desi circle there is this dentist lady who always tries to showoff her money blah,blah that it gets sickening sometimes.
