Hi everyone,
I am relocating to different place in the same town (just a KM away). Right now I have home phone with Bell. They would charge $60 for moving the service to new address. Rogers has a service where we keep the same number if we switch over to them. Will they charge extra if I want Rogers home phone with the same number at the new address. Anyone has similar experience?
Thanks in advance

I doubt it. It will be new service with Rogers. Rogers will allocate phone # provided to them by Bell. If you leave Bell, Bell will not allocate same # as it costs them money to move switches.

You may be lucky to get the same #, but everyone isn't. A friend of mine moved about 1 km away, but did not get the same number. Reason being, he moved from one side of 401 to another. Generally if it's feasible, Bell will not change the #, and they don't chanrge anything extra.

Of course, you can call Rogers call center and find out.

If you are moving in same condo or apartment building then it is fine.
In case you are moving even within street and moving to Rogers as new subscriber then you are at mercy of Bell and Rogers. Landlines infrastructure is owned by Bell and Rogers rents it from them.

Rogers is trying to go digital through cable wherever possible. There is even some kind of promotion going on if you have an analog phone line with Rogers and if you switch to their digital line through cable.

Though they would connect home phone jacks with a cable modem, they say it is not VOIP.

May be Bell landline numbers are tied to physical telephone exchanges and that is why your number changes if you are served by another telephone exchange when you move.
