hi alok,,,,,,,,Even I am thinking to migrate to Halifax looking at the info, what scares me is the windy winter..which are the areas where you generally find indian communities in downtown Halifax and what should be the rent for a studio appartment for one person, and a 3bedroom house/appt in down town halifax pl let me know I am really thinking seriously to migrate to this place as it will definately have better scope and low cost of living..do u sometimes feel lost or lonley..? do become homesick..?? are there good theateres where u can get hindi movies or u watch it on dvd...lot of Q/s but surely good to ask while deciding to make a move....cheers Sudhir

Sudhir ,

Halifax is undoubtedly a very beautiful city akin a hill station in India but does not have a lot of economic opportunities ..... I would not recommend any one to move their w/o a job - it is a white dominated place and not as cross cultural as Toronto . No racism but one needs to adapt - as because of less immigrant the culture remains pretty unchanged .

You would feel the loss of desi population and associated feelings , if you have lived in Toronto ........ Otherwise its really an experience to be there ---- if you have a job , you will feel it as a paid vacation at a hill station ......... beautiful place !

Browse CD for 'Halifax' and I am sure there are a couple of more informative threads .

Hello Friends,

I live in Vancouver BC and I have a IT consultant job offer for 55k PA in downtown Halifax .
I am seriously considering moving out to Halifax next month (Dec'09) as I have been looking for work for the last 3 months.
We (mywife & me) would like to rent a 2 bed apt in a predominant desi community close to downtown for easy commute.
I would appreciate any/all suggestions about accommadation/culture/community/contacts and cost of living etc.
TIA
-MS.

Please browse the forum ... Halifax and the area and communities has been discussed before in depth ..... Avoid the N End of Halifax / Dartmouth under any circumstances . Dartmouth has excellent connectivity with DT and is cheaper and scenically more beautiful than Halifax ... Check Killam Properties .

Hi

We are living in Halifax for more than 2 years. I am not sure that we have any predominant desi community here in Halifax. But no doubt, this is a beautiful place to live and raise kids (if you have a job...).

Hi

Cost of Living
In my case it is about 1000$/month + Rent 1000$/month. We are 4 members
I have Eastlink bundle (phone+internet+basic cable) and we live in independent house

One can easily surly survive on less. For rent I suggest to look at Kijij-Halifax. Rent ranges from 500~2500 for apartments.

Transportation: Not very good. But you work and live in downtown then traveling to work should not be an issue.

Are you coming here for long term assignment and what is your family structure..

Groceries-3 shops

Movie theater: I think 3 or 4 not sure. You get hindi movies also in theater.

What else....
