Hello friends, Iam a doctor 35/M from chennai , India. I would like to put an request to the Canadian Desis. My brother is just gonna immigrate to Canada, an immigration consultant is offering me immigration to Canada. I would like to know from anyone especially doctors from India who have immigrated there a few things, 1. Is life good there? 2. How are the recognition exams for our degree, is it ok or is it tough? 3. How many years it will take for us to practice as doctors? 4. Is the pay good? 5. Till we get recognized what are we supposed to do? Can we bring the whole family for settlement or is it advisable for one of us to immigrate, finish exams and then take along our family? Both me and my wife are doctors earning around Rs.200,000 a month now, do you think we will be able to be better off there? Not only by income but as a whole. It would be of great help if you all help me in taking a BIG decision in our lives. Iam sincerely expecting some good advice from Canadian Desis ASAP. They do need Doctors.We needed Doctors and currently they are like hen's teeth. Difficult to find one. The Association of the Medical profession were over protective and did not permit training of them and sufficient enrolment of aspring students in the Universities. They put a cap on this. All of this is of their own making. Now they are screaming for 'MORE'
Now if you want to find out what the current situation is? whether it is acute or desperate and what they are doing to alleviate the situation, you should discuss this with 'A' Doctor who will provide you with current assesments and how they will let you in through the door, and the time it takes to establish yourself etc., with him. Is the window of opportunity still open? If so, for how long? How far North you will have to go and into how remote a territory and for how long? All of this will be worth discussing.
There is a list of Doctors on this Canadian Desi's website. You pick and choose one and fix up a time spot with him, if he is willing to spare his time, and then have a heat to heart talk. Get all of the details, names, numbers, e-mail addresses and web site address and any other question that you always wanted to ask but did not have the courage, then have a very nice talk with your wife too and see where you go from there?

I don't think its a good idea if u r the only bread earning person in your family. also don't go through an agent for migration. it is getting further simple from september 2006. there is nothing great in the application that u can not fill on your own.

Being a doctor you will have no problems getting immigration since there is a severe shortage of doctors here. Of course, when you come here, you will realise that you will NEVER be able to practice as a doctor. You are welcome to come to Canada if you are ready to drive taxis, school buses or work in call centers.

Stay on in India and do your practice there. Don't worry about anything. There will a lot of canadians who will travel to India for treatments because the treatment in canada sucks!
