Dear CDs,
CRA has stppped payment of CTB and GST credit on account of non-filling of income tax return for 2005. I landed in Canada with family in Nov 2004 and left after 2 months when could not find a job. But, I did manage to file my 2004 return in time from back home. This led to continuation of CTB and GST payments during 2005. However, I did not file the return for 2005. Now I am here for permanant settlement again and can not go back this time as had already resigned from my Job. I am now doing some odd job to support family and need CTB and GST AND had ALREADY spent most of the savings that were accumulated in my account as a result CTB and GST PAYMENTS during 2005.
Can anyone help/suggest me how to file the late return for 2005 without being penalized by having to return the CTB/GST credits I received in 2005.
Thanks
CTB & GST starts in July of the year following the taxation year, so for calendar 2005, your GST/CTB start in July 2006 until June 2007. If you did not file your taxes for 2005, your CTB/GST would have stopped arriving from July 2006 onwards.
If you were not in the country, you're not eligible for CTB & GST.
