Raza,
While i donot know any such stores selling good quality and cheap eye glasses in Mississauga, I can tell you about other options available.

1. In Dollarstores (Dundas-Hwy.10 or Rexdale mall) you have prescription eye glasses for a Dollar. It is pre manufactures and sold as +0.25, +0.50,+1.00 etc... If this matches your daughter's power then you can buy from here.

2. Same glasses as above are sold in Walmart for may be $10

3. Ask the exact power glass to be shipped from Pakistan.

4. Visit Garage sales / Moving sales/ Second hand stores. It is possible to get a match.

Please use the above recommendations at your own risk.

Keep in mind, when U get glasses from Pakistan, without your daughter being present, they'll make the lenses without taking any measurements. That is harmful for the eyes. I tried it myself, and my lense power increased. You may save some $, but at the cost of something...

TK A -> SS,
She is going to go to a Opthamologist and the Opthomologist will give her the power, Say +0.3. I assume that Opthamologist services are free in Ontario, atleast to children. Then Raza is going to make the lenses as per the Cdn. Opthamologist prescription in Pak. and is going to be shipped to Toronto. What is the harm in that.
OTOH, Though my Dad lives 99.99 % of his life in India, when he came to USA 3 years back, he bought a pre-made prescription eye glasses in a US dollar store for US 1$+ Taxes. The last time i went to India (6 months back), he still used that and is very happy with the Chinese quality.

There are quite a few optical stores that offer the 2nd pair at a discount. If not try Costco or Sams Club. They have the single vision lenses for around $100 with a 2 years warranty. I got a scratch on mine after a year and they replaced the lenses - no charge.

TK,
The ones available in the $ store are cheap quality and generally to be used only in times of emergency.

Buying lenses from a garage sale...now thats a neat idea....:D

Hello,

Do you know what is the number?

If it is for seeing the blackboard, it must be a "minus" number.

The doctor must have written two things in prescription:
a. Number (with a +ve or -ve sign)
b. IPD xx mm (which is inter-pupilary distance in millimeters and gives the distance required between center of two lenses in the spectacles and matches with distance between two pupils of the patient)

Once you have these, spectacles can be made anywhere in the world.

While IPD is important for prolonged use, if you get a ready-made spectacles, with matching number, in Walmart or some other store, you can safely use them for a couple of weeks till you get proper specs. (max. that can happen is a headache, on which you may discontinue use)

But do get specs with proper Number and IPD as early as possible.

Also, for kids hard plastic frames are better than wire frames or frameless spectacles. And always get two pairs from home, they tend to get lost/broken.

:)

Thanks all for advice!

Got number after check-up and than some shopping around & also bargaining, ended up $100 for Root frame and glasses (unbrakeable). Good or bad deal but it is fine to start with!
