These IDs are from a company and not from the Govt. Please correct me if I misunderstood" DWM".
I was talking by Govt issued ID card. You can go to a photo studio with the same thing and they will make an ID but not sure in Ont how many would accept it as here fraud is ramphant.

no these are from the DMV "department of motor vehicles. ppl who dont have a driving licience and cannot drive can get them. i work in a bank and ppl bring them to cash their govt cheques. they look exactly like the licience "nova Scotia identity cards".
I see. It does not make sense the dept of motor vec. giving id's for non drivers??? It does not seem relevent. I have not seen that in Ontario.
Many times there is a debate in the parliament about issuing a ID for canadian citizens. US has imposed a ruly about requiring a passport to re enter US and this came up as people cannot agree on what to use.

Hi Mercury, what about when opening a new credit card account or cell phone line? How will they check your credit if you do not provide the SIN #??
Give them address your full name & phone no. or any other credit card you may have.
This should pull up your credit file.
Sometimes it is more work for the agent if on the same name there are multiple files. In credit history there is a flag for multiple file. That is the reason the agents ask your SIN no.
PS remember Identity theft etc. be careful. Shred your letters with your info. before you throw in garbage. Believe it or not there are people opening garbage bags for this.
