I was told by someone here in Ottawa that the ETR is no longer there, no toll, no transponders. Is this correct?
Browse there website http://www.407etr.com" rel="nofollow">LINK
so instead of link i guess the answer is simple that ETR is still there, toll, transponders all same as before.
Thanks guys. Glad I checked before driving.

There's nothing stupid about the question that was asked.
It is a common practise to convert toll highways into toll-free highways after the construnction cost is recovered by toll fees over several years.
There are several highways across north america which were once toll roads but now toll-free highways.
Eventually Hwy 407 will also become toll free some day. But 407 has several decades left before it can become toll free.
