Hi mightybuckz,
This is just for guidance. Be careful as you get started and progress slowly. It takes time to master it. Once you get the hang of it, you are the king.

Skates: Choose one that fits your pockets and style.
Decide on the pairs of socks and the bulkiness of the material.
Prior to buying the SKATEs, wear the pairs of socks and test to see
your toes, (Tootsies) wiggle a little bit in the front, inside when the
skates are fully laced up. Feel at ease when you stand up.
If you are not sure if this sport is for you, then try and rent the same
a couple of times from the skate shop or get a used one.

There are rinks as mentioned above in the previous letter that are currently open and people are practicing there already and the other day when I passed by the Library at 401/404 I saw the teams in action. The rink time costs a few bucks.
Once you develop a liking for the sports and the feel for the ice and the exilaeration for the speed. there is nothing like it. Make sure you are fully protected and also try and get a helmet to protect your head, also for knees, elbows and whatever you can think about. (Including the family heirloom)
By the by, the better pairs of skates have dual brakes, one on each feet. It will bring you to a grinding halt from 60 to zero in no time. You will see the flakes flying in all directions, the teeth grind, so wear mouth guard too. Helmet will surely help if you use your head or not. If you use it in gauging the braking distance and the time required, then you will find that you did not need it. If you did not then the helmet will come into play. One way or another you will have to use your head.
On your mark, set..... GO..............
I want to see an Asian in NHL, I will come to see you then.
