TK,
Buy and 01+ Sunfire Cavalier. It's the best value for money.
Ford focus was introduced in 2000 and was crap however the 02+ models are very very reliable.
Please do yourself a favor and dont even look at Cheysler Neone, Ford Tarus.
Chevy Malibu and Impala also have very decent reliability

Live and Let Live
There are certain models of Impala, Taurus, etc. that require a lot of maintenance or have known problems.
You should check Consumer Reports for the vehicles you are considering.

Just an Update :
I tested the Ford Focus and the car was not running vey well. There were also many sounds coming from the car.
So I settled for a 2000 Mazda with 90K kms. in it. The price is $6200 + tax. Bought by the current owners from a Mazda dealer in 2005. Only all the 4 tires and the battery needs to be changed.
Now my question is : Do i have to declare this amount when I go to buy plates for the car and register it or can i declare a lesser amount for the price of the car that I bought. The seller is telling me that the current govt. rates is about $3800 and that I need to pay tax only for that. I told the insurance company the exact rate that I paid for the car.
Also would like your opinions if the above is a good deal or not.
Thanks for all the replies which enabled me to buy a new car. If not for the advise I would have settled for the Ford Focus 2002 which I belive has a lot of problems, though the interior looks great.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
The seller has to sign used vehicle information package that has a column for price of car. If the seller does not fill the column, then you have to fill the column.
If you declare it as gift then tax will be on value of a similar car with similar mileage.
