It will be a futile exercise. We already donate considerable amount of our time here as it is. I could be billing instead of typing this response.

Besides being not really consistent with the basic purpose of this site, who is to judge what post is good or bad. One can be judged if the playing field is same for all. People here come with different experiences, different social status, different professional backgrounds, and even different language speaking areas. I would say it would be even if say all software people were asked to relate their experience of life and professional successes and failures, and then compare one to another - or say ask accountants to comment on some accounting/finance or tax topic which is mainly related to Canadian life, and judge their submissions.

An example - I could say a posting is great if someone is able to prove how he has been able to maintain desi values and pride in his children in Canada while someone might say - no that's wrong- it should be judged on how soon have you thrown away your baggage of desi values and adapted Canadian lifestyle and culture to succeed in Canada. While both postings would be great, readers might not judge the posting itself, but rate is on the basis of one as negative and the other as positive.

Besides that, this site already has a space for articles which readers are free to rate. That should by itself give an indication of the contribution by members and results can be statistically generated out of that. And the benefit of that is that such articles are not in response to any posts, but an expression on its own - with no background and no expectations of replies. An article speaks more about the contribution than a simple discussion where you can score by assimilating various views and expessing them in nice sentences.

I think it would be a good idea if we could have some way of picking up best posts. I agree with chandresh that we cannot grade a post until it has proved benefits.

Ifwe grade it would be helpful for new comer to the site to read concrete posts. I think it took around 4 months for me to actually go though some of them and i am sure i am missing information posted here. Also this will reduce posts related to repeated topics.

Just a suggestion... I have seen this on many sites. I know it might need some development skills and hardwork behind. If i was developer i could have visualized how to do it but as of now i can only suggest... I think to find best post could be calculated from the response of readers and ask them to grade it. Something between 1 to 10. 1 being "not helpful" and 10 being "Very Helpful".

Forum can also reward the person whose post tops. Issue some sort of recognition, a certificate of somekind. But then i agree person who wants to help others will not be looking at recognition but i guess it would inturn atleast help readers to distinguish informative posts from non-informative ones. Otherwise everybody will have issues like Jake :D.

By the way i have got through one more level of immigration, I hope to get my visa stamped before march. CIC london has asked for our passports. Hope to see you guys. I really hoped that i could attend the meeting happening in few days but i hope there will be many to come in future and hopefully i will have many chances to meet you guys personally.

Yes, I moved to niagara falls in september.

When I started this new topic, it was just a thought - whether it is possible or not? if yes, then how to do it. I had no specific yes or no.
One way of doing it could be to ask the viewers or readers to rate the topic right at the time of reading it. I have noticed that on the page: Canadian Desi/General/General Chat we could see the details of the all the post under: Topic : Author : Views : Replies : Last Action , Is it possible that we can have the "rating" there itself as one more column.

The idea of Best Post came to me looking to the responses we are getting on this site and the future vision of the development. It is another way of encouraging members to participate more often. (I understand the difficult time we get at home with wives - asking us to devote more time to the family than to CD) having said that, this will help others to participate more often and give their opinion. for example, sometimes we read a post and have some comments, not necessarily related to the topic, but would like to appreciate only, so for those viewers, this could be a good option to offer their comments.

Also, this is a long term thinking, may be not possible this time, but will definately help in the long run.

Chandresh:

seize the moment and cook something yourself! You won't depend on your wife and you can continue with Cdesi...

... but then she may chuck you out of the house and you'll have to be adopted by CDesis.

CanadianDesi is addictive site. In case you will be kicked out by your wife for using CanadianDesi, CanadianDesi is not liable to you for anything. You may however goto nearest HRDC center or library and continue using CanadianDesi. I am sure the Librarian will not cick you out ;)
