HI ALL

I AM VERY CONFUSED WETHER I SHOULD LEAVE CANADA OR LIVE IN CANADA.

AS CHANDRESH MENTIONED EARLIER IT DEPENDS ON YOUR BACKGROUND AND FROM WHERE YOU ARE COMING.I WILL ELABORATELY STATE IT TO GET SOME REAL FRANK ADVICE FROM ALL OF YOU.

I AM 21 MALE FROM CALCUTTA INDIA CURRENTLY IN BURLINGTON AND DOING MY POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AT MOHAWK COLLEGE HAMILTON ONTARIO.

I CAME TO CANADA ON 12 SEPT 2003 WITH HIGH DREAMS AND ASPIRATIONS OF MAKING IT BIG AND AFTER COMPLETING MY B.COM THERE.

I HAVE MY FAMILY BUSINESS OF TEXTILES IN INDIA BUT ITS ON DECLINE AND I WONT BE TOO HAPPY TO JOIN IT.

AFTER SPEAKING TO SO MANY PEOPLE ( MANY OF WHOM ARE EVEN GOING BACK ) ALMOST ALL ARE WILLING TO GO BACK BUT MOST OF THEM ARE STUCK AS IN CHANDRESH'S CASE.

THE MAIN REASON THEY MENTIONES WAS MONEY AND EMOTIONAL BONDAGE TO INDIA AND HAVING NO REAL FRIENDS IN CANADA.

I AM WILLING TO GO THROUGH THE TUNNEL OF HARDSHIPS PROVIDED IT ENDS WITH SUCESS PLEASURE AND MONEY.

FOR ME AGE IS STILL ON MY SIDE AND I DONT WANT TO WASTE ANY TIME BUT SETTLE DOWN THINGS SO PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE.

MY STUDENT VISA IS EXPIRING ON 15 AUG 2004 SHOULD I CELEBRATE MY NEXT INDEPENDENCE DAY IN INDIA OR SHOULD START PREPARING FOR CANADA DAY FROM NOW ON FOR MY LIFE.

PLEASE ADVICE AND HELP A CONFUSED GUY FIND ITS WAY.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE .

hi

As u mentioned u arrived in sep 03, which makes it approx 3 month till date.

during the first 3 months of my stay away from my family and my country i felt very depressed and home sick.

But now its been 4 years and i don't think i made any wrong decision to come aborad (UK) and stay here.
Now I am applying for Canada to settle,( hopefully things will work out on the visa side if not there is enough land in the world for me to survive),

I have been going through the opinions of the people in canada and also met a few when visited canada in aug 03, most of them were not very satisfied and felt betrayed by their dreams.

Still i am ready to land ,start my struggle and win, (atleast thats my attitude)

My strengths (as I consider)-
Age -24
Education- Masters -(UK)
Optimism
courage to venture on my own till success comes.

Weekess - no Canadian Experience ( so what !will take care of that once reach the place)

you have age on your side, get the education aswell, stay there for some more time, try to adjust, and by the end of u'r course if you still feel Canada is still not the place for you then go back.

Nishit and Hestonuk,

In my opinion, it will be very difficult for both of you to fail in Canada - unless you purposely create blunders. You have all the ingredients of success as you have yourself put.

And that is the reason why we elders/seniors feel that our children will definitely do better than us - but I doubt if they will be able to do better than you guys who went out of India after High School or after college. You have had wonderful academic education of high school in India and seen (if not experienced) survival techniques of developing nation's residents.

I have a lot of friends in Canada who are quite successful in various ways - and I think 90% of them left India after basic undergrad. It is a fact of life that a person is able to give his best when he is young and does not carry social burdens with him - and nothing to lose except time. I will give you an example - when I came here, I was in a great job and so went ahead and took up a condo on rent paying what I would have paid for mortgage on a half a million dollar house. Today what I earn is less than my rental - but I cannot move because of children who are well set in their schools. For a young person, it would be easy to bring down his expenses to his income level without much problem - and so he will not get frustrated as we are. Moreover, he would be starting his professional career in Canada with no baggage, unlike we 40 pluses.

That is why one of my advice to intending immigrants is : move out before you are 30 - you will achieve your dream in western countries. And never move to a different country (without a pre-arranged job) after 40 - chances are you will face frustration - even if it moving from Canada to India!

Nishit:

You have been given good advice by the seniors, I have also learnt from the advice. Keept comming back to this board and read the articles and posts, it is very helpfull, atleast it gives you a picture of things, also meet up and network with positive people.

Chandresh:
Thanks for the valuable advice.

Jake:

i have followed canadiandesi almost since its inseption sometime in april 2003 before i was here. and its like i visit this site almost 3-4 times a week.

thanks all for your invalued suggestion.

i cant predict in advace that a person is negative ot positive but with whoever i have spoken to no matter how long he has been here all say the same thing that they dont like it here but when i say i wanna go back if there is no social life at all then the common answer again is plz dont do that.

thats the prime reason for my confusion and to an extent the posts on candain desi have had a larger effect of creating negative impact of canada on me.( as i am only 3 months old in canada and havent experienced it much firsthand.)its only off late that members of canadiandesi memeber have started speaking positive things .

thanks to all once agian for their invalued suggestion and looking forward to more replies.

chnadresh

in one of your post you have mentioned that one should take general opionion and i had always been doing that.

the problem started when i did it after coming to canada. I had followed canadiandesi before i was here and perceived that after 5- 10 years the decision of coming to canada was worth it .in order to cross check myself i started asking almost all desis i met and most of them have been here more then 5 years .all say they wanna go back if they have a choice.
thats when my problem started personally for me after i had landed i was straight to business with labour jobs( as i can't work legally) and studies .now during the vacation i had plans to apply for immigration but in this 3 months all i could do was speak to people and read canadiandesi posts and the result the confusion and a feeling that i might have made a mistake by coming here and should rectify it as soon as possible.

personally for me i still feel i should stay on in canada for at least next five years but the public opinion has made me shaky.

it has its own set of benefits as well as i started thinking on the aspects that were never thought of before like the family values , strong canadian passport, staying on for citizenship .

now i request all off you on board to give me their piece of opinion and help me decide as i consider this sample size as invalued and my only bunch of saviors in canada.

thank you all in advance.
