All,

I would love to visit Northern territories this winter and my main purpose would be to see Aurora Borealis or Northern lights.

I reside close to Toronto and it seems not easy to get to northern territories. Do I need any documents or Visa kind off??( I am a PR of this country) Has anyone tried to visit such places?

I am reading, flying is the only option and really only a few cities there. Also all flights seem to orginate from Calgary and Edmenton.

Are there any vacation packages or wesbsites. I see lots of Canadian websites offers low cost trip to SUNNY beaches and hot destinations in Winter but I wnat to explore real canadian winter..what to say :-))

There are not many deals or ppl going there I guess.........

Please advice if anyone has done this exploration and are there any groups or travel agents who can arrange the entire trip.

First , The Great Canadian North is a part of Canada :) hence if you have a PR you are fine to visit this.

Going to the Big White NORTH is only accessible through small Planes(more like chartered) . You can google going to whitehorse or yellowknife and from their these small planes fly to the destination of your choice. Mind you it would be expensive and real cold .

Search for 1st north airways and destinations like resolute/Baffin Bay etc.

Here is 1 site for your reference

http://travel.away.com/Canada/travel-vacation-11-1869-Yellowknife.html

and here are some photos of the area of the MOST NORTH.

What I like about resolute bay is their slogan.

"This is not the end of the world , but you can see it from here"

You should also watch a program on CBC "Wings over Canada". You are going to love that if you like travelling to NORTH

Enjoy and have a Great Trip..

I used to see the Northern Lights every winter when I lived in Winnipeg. You do need to be in an area far away from city light pollution..

here's a link for you:
