Situation : Infant (14 1/2 months) cold, Cough, Running nose for 1 month.
History of treatment : At a Walk-in in the first week, The doctor said that there is no cure for the common cold and that to leave it as it is.
Second week, (parents) being concerned gave doses of Infants Dimatepp. No betterment at all.
Third week , took to another doctor who gave an Antibiotic. Given regularly for 10 days. No effect at all.
End of fouth week, Took to Sick kids Hospital. Was seen by latin doctor (after a 3 hour wait) who did not even know proper english. His solution was just to leave it as it is.
Questions to CD's - Has any CD been in a situation like this. Any remedies..
Next step : The infant will be inoculated on Wednesday by her family pediatrician (studied in Saudi). Will ask him about possible treatment.
A bit extreme step : If consulation with the pediatrician fails/ no remedy is given, Will there be a better treatment if the Infant crosses the border to Buffalo and shown to an American Doctor? (am prepared to pay fees for consultation / medicine)

happened to my son when he was 2 years old - first time in daycare and was picking up infection after infection with continous running cold.
first you have to check whether you have mold- spores at home which can make kids very sick- gets complicated if you central heating. Get rid of them if you have or move if you can afford it.
next using a humidifier does wonders - again keep changing the filters and keep it clean - follow instructions that come with it.
remove all external conditions that you think is causing the cold and the babys health will improve and it is true doctors don't trat commom cold in infants that easily even in the US.
Some facts:
There are no cures for the common cold. Antibiotics are not cold treatments. They treat coinfections like ear infections. Its a virus that causes the cold. If you pick up the virus...you get a cold. So if anyone in the family has a cold...be careful about hygiene around the baby.
You probably have to wait out the cold. Dragging the baby all over may itself prove unbeneficial when the baby requires rest.
If the symptoms do not include fever then there is probably no infection(currently). If a fever develops go back to the doctor.
Do not consider this medical advice but it has worked for my childrens cough.
Cons- Ayurvedic cough medicine. Dont know if its available in Canada. I usually get it from India. Ofcourse, consult with the doctor in India before giving it to an infant...my kids are a few yrs older than yours.

CD's,
This is what the family Pediatrician had to say about the infant suffering from Cold, Cough and Running nose for 5 weeks now (Arab educated in Saudi) :
If there is no improvement in a week, He will give some other antibiotic which may fight the cold. If there is no improvement in that also, as a last resort he will give a "Puffer". He looked in the ear and said that it still was a bit red (donot know what that means-This is also what the doc's at the Sickkids also said).

Hi TK,
Just curious if the cough is really bad?
I know that doctors do not take runny nose as a concern for infants.
