Dear CD
I have done B.Com from Panjab University Chandigarh and have around 9 years of experience in accounting.
But the problem is that I do naot have any professional education. What are my chances of getting job as accountant.
Or I have to obtain some degree in Canada to succedd
Please help
Do Not Worry.
Do not ever say that you have no professional education. In Canada the local B.Com is what is a professional education. There are plenty of jobs available through Account Temps. What you need to do is to land here prepare a resume in the Canadian format and circulate it around. There are plenty of people here who cannot speak proper english working as accountant in big organization.
After you land here and start somewhere as you need to build your Canadian Experience on paper, you should start attending community college and pick up local diplomas or certificates to enhance your local qualification. The problem in Canada is there are plenty of CA's, CGA's, ICWA's, CMA's, CPA's and all the fancy degrees, but the actual jobs are all basic accounting and book keeping. If I look at your writeup you are ideally suited to find a suitable employment and also make it big in Canada.
The reason why I'm writing this is that you are rightly qualified for Canada and you are a Punjabi. The second reason is that you know your handicap and you are also willing to work on it. There are plenty of Punjabi businesses that need Accountants/Book-Keepers. The other reason is that as most of accounting is by computer software, it'll hardly take a few hours to master it.
Honestly I strongly suggest you should not be apolegetic but you should have your chest forward as you have things made for you in Canada. It is also not entirely necessary for you to chase those fancy degrees to succeed in Canada.
It is only matter of time that you would be writing in this very one CD, that you found a good job, bought your first townhouse and your wife is working in a local business. When you land in Canada you should be very thrifty(do not spend a single cent more than you need), save the money for a rainy day, take up a part time job preferably afternoon/night shift so that you can focus upon your goal and only goal that is to attain an Accountant job in a decent firm. Always try to get a job in a decent sized small business so that you have a permanent job than going after a fancy large business house where you will be laid off because the principal was taken over/merged somewhere in US or Europe.
I have similar friends of mine who are again from similar back ground like yours who are flourishing in Canada. They have two jobs, one part time for health benefits and another for Accounting. This way their wives do part time jobs in evening and are free to take care of small children at home. Their wives work in Tim Hortons for experience/health benefits, and they also do baby sitting. They have their homes in Brampton with basement rented and have new cars with the lease paid off. Mind you they also do Basement renovation/painting/plumbing and all handy man jobs on spare time( I do not know where these guys get their energy/time from) for cash.
Good Luck, do not worry it is all made out for you(provided you are willing to stick it out in the first 6 months).

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
Shankarcharya:
While I applaud your detailed posting attempting to assist the original poster with his question about an accounting career in Canada, I feel that your writing appears to be biased and stereotyping.
I also disagree with your statements about Accounting as a Career in Canada. I say this because I am in the career counselling field. There are benefits to obtaining further education, whether a professional accounting designation such as CA, CMA or CGA or other accounting related certification. Actual jobs are not "Just" accounting and bookkeeping.
If you wish to assist someone with their career decision, it would be far more helpful to refer them to a website, or agency or professional association that they can email to get more information.
I also do not appreciate your stereotyping of Punjabi's, or that this country is somehow suited more to Punjabi's. If you have a personal issue or problem due to your experience, please do not use your bias because this is not helpful to someone looking for objective guidance.
Becoming successful in a new country as an Immigrant is NOT an exact science. Your advise or "action plan" you wrote sounds sarcastic.

Dear Shankarcharya
I am very thankful for your advice but I am thinking you are hitting below belly by saying that being Punjabi I can succeed more than other Indians, When we Indians learn from our previous mistakes and start calling them selves Indians rather than Punjabi,Tamil or by other names.
Its time to grow, I am just askign my Indian Bro/Sisters to provide me information which can help me once I reach Canada.
No doubt I appriceate your efforts to write me about my query in detail.
I am also very thankful to Morning Rain for her opinion and view points,Thank you for providing link
See you soon
Dear Shankaracharya,
My boss, who is an IITan and retired as VP-Technical from an International company used to say
"These days I have stopped giving advice (thiough with good intentions), when I know I can get paid for that".
One being an Indian, doesn't prevent him/her from being proud about being a Punjabi, Maratha,Gujarathi, Tamilian etc.

Zero percent chance of you getting a job. When you land in canada either do CPA orsomething small like CFI or at least a 2 months diploma in Word or excel only then the doors will open. your indian degree and expirience dont mean anything here.
till you are studying do odd jobs.
