Till date we have not found replacements for players like Gavaskar, Kapil or Bedi. That cannot be criterion for retaining them.
Players like he and Agarkar should not consider their places as permanent and dish out indifferent performances. Many times they give the impression that they are bored with the proceedings and get out to lazy shots or bowl casually. With so many youngsters fighting for a place in the team this is totally unacceptable.

BCCI is worth INR 3000 Crores. If they can make this kind of money at the current level of performances what is the kind of moolah they can rake in if people perform to their potential.
I miss Sadam Hussains second son who was the president of Iraqs football federation. If the Iraq team came back a loser he used to personally supervise the caning of the team as punishment.
India as country produces good individual players (Vishwanathan Anand, Jeev Milkha Singh, Sharp shooters, Tennis players)and is poor at producing team sportsmen.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
Munaf , age 23, ODI 14, Wkts 15
Agarkar, Age 29, ODI 173, Wkts 263
Irfan, age 22, ODI 70, Wkts 114
