One question Desi, How do they contact you when the OCI is ready (and they ask for your passport). Do they contact you by email or snail-mail.
The reason is I might be away from the country when they contact me.
Desi in Ottawa
I am in toronto, so not useful calling ottawa office. Or do I have to send my OCI application to OTTAWA?
Call them up first. Does not hurt. Tell the front desk person that u want to talk to someone reg OCI.
In my case, they called me when it was ready. Since it was in Ottawa, it was easy and quick. I guess the number of applicants are less here as compared to GTA.

You can go on their website and check or need to call them after couple of months of your application.
The applicant should bring their Canadian passport and the receipt at the time of pickup.
If the applicant is in India, he/she can apply to the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata or Amritsar or Chief Immigration Officer (CHIO) Chennai or to the Under Secretary, Citizenship Section, Foreigners Division, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Jaisalmer House, 26 Mansingh Road, New Delhi-110011.
After checking all the relevant details, the Consulate General of India, Toronto, will issue an acknowledgement, and the number mentioned thereon (the file number) or the reference number can be used for online status enquiry at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) website http://www.mha.nic.in." rel="nofollow">LINK
