How do you feel about your boss being a Desi ?
Do you find having a desi manager gives you an edge or affects adversely?
From my experience (being in IT industry unfortunately), I found the compromises outweigh the benefits.
A desi boss seem to take more advantage of his direct report, generally you would see either a friendly tone is set initially or a very hostile upfront to start with, in either case as the time passes, things get worse and one finds it hard to finesse with the mentality imposed on. Esp.. in cases when the language and culture are same, I notice stronger mutiny or on a light term some sort sulking around. I've noticed things get really sleazy when one needs to defend his team members.
Even when I was in US and working for a top notch, my boss was a person from my same background and was extremely obnoxious and jumpy (It is the same case with most of the desi mgrs I've observed) which was quite noticeable beyond my team and had an adverse effect on us of not being able to propel our capacity despite such a rapport he/she had set already. But the same things changed utterly after an Eastern European mgr took over (BTW, he was overly skillful and more noteably he posessed one of the most important leadership quality of being a good listener and an honest person).
Isn't there a chance that one is finding tough to accept a superior from his own background (not reasonable, not practical to think that way at all considering age, experience, qualification of the superior) which leads to feel bit biased or Desi's mgrs, are not really good managers atleast a wide gap of interpersonal skills to impress and accomodate (no question on technical capacity though) the people whom they report to.
FYI, certain Desi managers I'd worked with were very good (not good leaders though atleast professional and assertive in representing themself).
What I really like to know?
- Do you see an edge having a desi as your Manager with the same cultural background as you ?
- From your heart, Do you prefer a professional (not righteous though as such thing is impossible in corporate world) manager / director or a desi whom you will find comfortable and later left to argument (in most cases) ?
- Isn't there really a lack of Interpersonal skills most of the desi manager posess, aren't they like Abimanyu who just knew how to embark into the war arena but doesn't have an exist plan ( real management / sustainment ) strategy indeed.
Sounds like a rant!! Mhhh.. can't deny this gripe of my own.

The worst is to work is for a Chinese Manager or with Chinese guy/lady. Avoid Them!!
According to me Pygmy bosses are the worst. They never look you in the eye.
Even 'worster' (sic) are the pygmies of desi-chinese mixed heritage.

If you have a desi boss or bosses , Just forget that Job and look for a new job...........I have zero tolerance for the bossim in any race...If you have desi boss,you will never grow or you will be never be allowed to grow your growth and freedom is in big stake...................

In my openion English bosses are good, althogh I have a different view for their outlook. As a boss I can accept them and respect them as long as they are with in their limits.
