I am wondering if there are any students in the US with PR status of Canada. I know I am supposed to move to Canada and have been mentally preparing myself but sometimes this last minute suspicion creeps in (last minute jitters). The discussion threads in CD scare me too .
I have been a student in the US for the last 5 years and I recently got my PR, I had finished my landing formalities and returned to finish my studies. I was also very fortunate to find a job in my field in Canada. I am going to be on OPT in the US from January and recently I got a decent job offer in the US too. The US offer is a university based job and I know that they will do the H1 & green card processing for me. I have been told that a green card processed through a university is usually faster and then they put you in a fast track process because of an advanced degree, author for certain papers etc.
I hope I am not beating this question to death but is there anyone planning to immigrate to Canada for the long term or is TN-1 visa the ultimate motive for immigrants in Canada. I know its ultimately my decision to move or not to move, but are there any CDs in Canada who after finishing their education in the US later regretted their move to Canada. Do the happy CDs visit charcha
I guess I am looking for people who moved to Canada from the US not because of visa issues but because they genuinely felt Canada is a better place to live in. Is there even such a category
Why don't you come down to Canada and spend about 6 months to understand the life here. As you have lived in USA, you will be the best judge in comparing and contrasting the same. Everyone of us have our own set of biases, which will not give you the right picture.
Every place has its set of advantages and disadvantages. You do not realize it until you actually live there. I strongly suggest you to make a short term career plan and a long term career plan(which includes a second career option when you are 40+). You could do a SWOT for each of the locations based on your career plan and then make the final plunge.
One of the most important thing you need to do is to make a study of the particular field you are in currently and see what are the trends in it. Is it getting outsourced or the products/services are getting replaced by alternative techonlogies/products/services. This way you will be able to see the trend and from which you could plan your career and the stop overs enroute before reaching the final destination.
Every individual is different and hence you'll not be able to arrive any conclusion based on what we have to say. Many of us from Canada want to move to USA because of the jobs/pay/less taxes/cheaper products. Many of my friends who are well settled in USA want to move to India due to the explosion in job opportunities and growth opportunities there. While many of my other friends whose visas are in a limbo want to move to Canada to start a more peaceful and routine life.
Best option spend atleast 6months in Canada to decide for yourself.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
Thank you Sir for your answer. A short term and a long term career plan is definitely a good idea.
