Friends,
I got an email from a friend living in For McMurray. I thought to share it with you guys.
Hi -----,
We are fine here, now setteled in fortmcmurray, AB.
Yes, Life is hard here b'cos of cold & cost of living. Since last month temp is from - 20 C to -30 C. so ya, compared to toronto winter is long & tough. Also house prise is from 400,000 to 800,000 and apartment rent is from 1500 $ to 2000 $.
Anyway, Mostly family income is more than 100,000 , So people can afford anything, even -40* C temp. as well.
Indian population are more than 300 families & gujju families are more than 60, So life is not so bad.
Main thing is alberta is grown & still growing b'cos of so many projects. So right now, next 10 years people are feeling the job securities. Oil is here, so if alberta is down, everything is down. We are working in the one of the oil industries SUNCOR. It's a oil sand. We extract the oil from the sand. So companies life depend on the land. our company SUNCOR says that they have a lease of land for next 50 years. So hopefully we feel secure for our life..
Regards,
-------

A Proud Indian Canadian
There are lots of people going in that Direction. Makes Sense as well. But I wonder how many of them will really live for 10 years there.
It definitely is better option to work there in the Chosen Field (even though lengthy winter) than hogging here in Factories.

Mumbai Maazi Ladki ...
Depending on the position that you work at, there are many employees whose families live in Calgary or Edmonton. Some employees go every Monday (by plane which is a chartered plane of the employer) to Fort McMurray & come back on Thursday evening. They get a long weekend every week. For some employees, there is a bus which leaves on Sunday night from Calgary & Edmonton. They get to come home every 2 weeks with a long weekend. They rent a house in Fort McMurray on sharing basis in addition to the house in Calgary or Edmonton.
Other added attractions of Fort McMurray are that you can see a bear in your backyard sometimes or on the road.
Lots of bars and also males living alone. So evil of prostitution as well.
My friend used to work there for 2 years. Now he is working in Calgary again, having taken a lower salary. He used to earn $15,000/- a month on contract basis. Earlier he worked as a security guard, building cleaner, etc. for 2 years in Calgary.
He is a mechanical engineer.

Let's make India a better place !
Any one who can swing the hammer can get the job in Alberta. But you really wanna make money then go to Ft. Mcmurray alberta. I think that is heaven for semi skilled or truck drivers to make money.

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
It may be true but better working in oil rig than working on $8.00 in factory.
Hi there
I am also from Calgary,Alberta and I am so happy living in Calgary as there are lots of job right now. I am currently working for HUSKY ENERGY INC. Calgary has better life than Toronto. I have just bought the house in Calgary. I was in Toronto for 2.5 year and wasted my lot of time. Salary in Calgary is way higher than Toronto.
People should take risk in life to move better place to make career. It may change your life if you move from Toronto to Calgary,Vancouver. I suggest all those people who wants to move to Alberta
