The way Musharaf and Vajpayee are acting these days, is as if they are long lost brothers and suffering from amnesia.

All of a sudden, such friendly ties .. something very fishy going on.

My room-mate happens to think that all the good relations are because of the potential pipeline deal from Middle East to India (through Pakistan). This means MAJOR MONEY.

I think Musharaf is in a fix and he doesn't have much of choice. This has all happened during the days when adamant countries started to scum to US pressure.

Libya for example realized that it has to work with US to improve economy and also to escape US anger.

North Korea had shown signs to softening its stand for its Nukes with USA by agreeing for UN inspection.

Iran has also scummed to the pressures of USA and allowed Inspections.

Ofcourse success of USA in Iraq made a big difference.

Pakistan very well knows India will not be ignored by Americans due to the consumer potentials ( as we indians know that USA will not leave Pakistan as favorite nation than India cause no other nation in South asia depends so much USA).

Another event in these days that iran inspections showed that Pakistan helped Iran to develop nuke capabilities.

Libya on the other hand had confirmed that Pakistan helped them for their nuclear programs.

After all the events Pakistan knows what is comming. To keep its old friend happy and retain friendship Musharaf has no choice but to take steps against Terrorism and give a new clean image to Pakistan.

Musharaf is more interested as he is getting more and more opposition from these terrorist outfits. 2 attempts on his life..(debateable though). Its not that pakistan is becoming a friend of India its just that it has to do things which india wanted pakistan to do... eg. Like acting against terrorist camps across LOC. It needs it for its survival.

Musharaf has realized that he has to comply to most of the indian demands not because its agreeing with india but cause of US pressure. Musharraf is targetting three birds with one stone. Keeping its neighbour India and USA happy and also getting rid of terrorists from there country (ofcourse that's the impression which they want to give).

I personally think that India pakistan will move ahead on issues except kashmir. Its good things which is happening. As more and more business acitivites increase with india more and more people will like to leave kashmir issue aside. Lets see how things move ahead.

Looks like Bush's strategy is working...and better than expected. Bush has done what he was elected to do. Note that it has come to light that he was thinking about replacing Saddam before 9/11. Like I mentioned before, international politics has nothing to do with right and wrong and everything to do with self-interest. The sooner we all realise this fact, the better we will be able to protect our own self interests. I think the current Indian Government is well aware of this fact and am glad for it.

Yes that's true. Its best in both the countries to move ahead at least on the business front. If pakistan could just focus business side i am sure it will help in reducing tensions. As more and more people get involved in doing business with india they would not support issues which could harm their pockets. I think both the countires are looking at that angle and lets hope that we get this tension over so that indian govt and people could give 100 % to the issues which require more attention.

Well said. I think the current indian Government is much better than the older ones, but still far from where we can be. I have always felt that the Indian government is very poor in government diplomacy. They dont know when to speak, when to keep quiet, and what to say when they do speak. A lot of diplomatic mileage could have been won during/after Kargil but very little was done. All the Indian governments try to do is keep the people at home happy (which I guess is essential) but forget that in these days its all about Global media.

I really think every minister in India needs an assistance who will ask them this question every day "If you say/do what you about to say/do, will it help in the long run?".

One of the worst ministers in George Fernandez, who really should have his lips stapled together.

Yes i agree with you shrek that Current Indian Govt is much better than the previous ones. This government had few issues with media but i think now they have improved a lot on that front. Also I think it was mainly because BJP or NDA never had experience to rule and face the complications with such responsibility. About George Fernandes I think what he says after some break is required to reflect the worries. We do not want to forget Chinese betrayal of 60ies. The Defense minister should tough. Look at any country's defense minister they will alway talk of winning wars. They have to keep an eye on possible enimies and show a tough face. Taking about his department i think he is doing a good job. He was the first Defense minister who who has visited 38 times to siachin hills to motivate. Of course he doesn't fight but then its a good effort from a minister. In his tenure defense is happy as things are moving in the positive direction.
